Printer David and April Sykes, Publishers Letters to the Editor Public support overwhelming came Sept. 7 our longevity couple, Marie and Huston Lesley celebrating 72 years with a party and dinner for about 85 well wishers. Finally the 21 st of Sept found John and Mildred Eubanks celebrating their 60 Dia mond Jubilee anniversary. Our annual Oyster and Salmon bake found over 290 people enjoy ing that dinner on Oct. 5. Next year it is set for Oct. 2, the first Saturday in October with Hardmans Bob Allen as cook. All proceeds from our fund raisers are used for upkeep and upgrading the old I OOF Hall at Hardman. Recently we installed a gas furnace in the dining hall, upgraded electrical wiring in the kitchen and a new floor and linoleum in the room off the stage. An appreciation dinner for all who have helped with all the activities and fund raising has been planned for December 9 at noon. By such cooperation of so many members and families helping we are most grateful to see much accomplished. Plan on coming to the Hardman Community Center for a fun time at our activities. The old Hall has stood since 1871 and has many memories for many people. Come join us for some of the fun activities in 1992 and thanks to all for your work and support. Hardman Community Center Organization (s) Pat Brindle To the Editor: The support of the public has been overwhelming to us of the Hardman Community Center. Our annual “ Haunted House” for Halloween and Snack Shack had approximate ly 250 in attendance. Over 25 members worked to set up the stag ing. participated in the presentation as characters, cooks, servers, ticket sellers and costume sewers, etc. to make it such a tremendous success. All are to be congratulated for the part each played in its success whether as a worker or visitor to the hall for a fun time. Hope the senior citizens enjoyed their outing too. In time for the annual Memorial Day visitors the two cemeteries for Hardman were groomed, stones repaired and new fencing put around the perimeter of both grounds. Visitors drop in to visit at the hall and have coffee or punch and cookies from volunteers at the center. Next comes the annual Old Timers reunion each year on Father's Day w ith a potluck and visiting for those returning to their roots at the Hard man area. August brings our annual spaghetti feed and Bingo. Late summer brought three couples to the hall to celebrate their wedding anniver saries. Sept. 1 was the occasion of Harold and Mary Wright’s 50th Golden Jubilee anniversary. Next f = " MOTOR OIL 5W30 • 10W30 • 10W40 • 20W50 99£ ! PER QUART Multigrade in Case Lots Only. Choos ing not to be involved definitely af fects our lives; choosing not to learn about something we don’t unders tand can cause us much pain and stress later on because decisions will be made for us by someone else, not necessarily to our benefit; choosing to greet the day with a gloom and doom attitude will insure a gloomy day for us; choosing to dislike so meone will cause us far more stress than if we made our peace with the person; and the list goes on and on. It’s our choice. * About 30 people chose to attend the “ Pass the Popcorn & Cider” evening for Heppner business peo ple. Topics of interest are customer surveys and planning downtown events. * Are you, your business, or organization interested in the ‘ ‘ Buy A Tree” program? Churches, ran chers, businesses, and individuals, or those who wish to remember so meone have signed up to buy a tree and have a plaque on the bench at the base of the tree.
