Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, July 3, 1991 - FIVE Ruth Locust drapes altar Wilsons retire after 24 years of teaching for past members Ruth Locust Chapter No. 32, O .E.S., held a draping the altar ceremony at their May meeting for Past Grand Patrons, Past Grand Patrons, and local chapter Eastern Star members who passed away this chapter year. The members were Ruby Roberts, Gladys Drake, and Neva House. Since then a long-time member, Virginia Rosewall from Milton-Freewater, has passed away. The next stated meeting of Ruth Locust Chapter No. 32 will be on Monday, September 10. Evans elected beef council chairman Wayne Evans Wayne Evans has been elected chairman of the Oregon Beef Coun cil, the education and promotional arm of the state’s $363 million beef cattle industry. Eelected vice chairman was Jim Chapman who heads a ranching operation outside Klamath Falls. Turner dairy farmer Arthur Van Veldhuizen, immediate past council chairman, will serve a term as treasurer. The action took place dur ing the council’s annual meeting held in Salem. Evans, a Heppner cattle and wheat rancher is a partner in the family owned Evans ranches. He served as vice-chairman of the council for the past two years. He is a past presi dent of Morrow County Livestock Growers, is a director of the Mor row County Rodeo and a member of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. He also is a past vice president of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association and served on several OCA committees. The new council chairman is a native o f H eppner who was graduated from Oregon State University. His wife Susan, is a former president of the Oregon Cat- tleWomen’s Association. They have a daughter, Kelsie, 14. Council members nominated Van Veldhuizen as Oregon’s director on the National Live Stock and Meat Board. Also announced was the ap pointment of Bob Beck of Antelope to the council. Beck replaces Reid Johnson, who retired from the coun cil after six years of service. Darrel, originally from Nebraska and Bev, from Iowa, met at Wayne State Teacher’s College in Nebraska over 40 years ago. He was a senior and she was a freshman at the time. They married after he graduated so Biev did not complete the teacher’s program. Upon graduation, Darrel wasn’t sure that he really wanted to teach, especially with wages in the neighborhood of $2,800 to $2,900 a year. So for the first six years of their marriage, he worked as a carpenter in such places as Greely and Boulder, Colorado and Hopkins, MN. Under much pressure from friends and family to use his teaching degree, Darrel took a job in Nevis, Minnesota, a town of 350. Bev also mentioned that Post Falls is not so far that they won’t be able to return to lone for special events or visit their other set of grandkids in LaGrande if the mood strikes them. The Wilsons have three children, all graduates of lone High School. Scott and his wife live in LaGrande with their two daughters. Scott teaches sixth grade. Greg lives in Plano, Texas and Sherry is a logg ing engineer in Hayden Lake, Idaho. Special guests at the dinner were Ken Wilson, Darrel’s brother of Decature Nebraska, Bemie and Sherry (Wilson) Lionberger and their daughters of Hayden Lake. Idaho and Scott and Donna Wilson and their daughters of LaGrande.
