Cathy, a 1982 graduate of lone High School, earned her graduate nurse certificate and associates degree from North Har ris County College. She is employed at Northwest Medical Center in Houston where she works as a nurse in the surgical intensive care unit. Cathy will take her registered nurse’s board examinations in July. Anthropologist to speak at museum Marilyn Couture, cultural an thropologist, will present films and a lecture entitled “ People of the Great Basin” at Morrow County Museum in Heppner on Thursday May 16. at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. They also placed first in the Hermiston division. Marine Pvt. Will J. Martin, son of Carl and Geri Martin, Heppner, recently completed motor transport school, conducted by Schools Bat talion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. During the course, Martin receiv ed both classroom and hands-on in struction on the operation of the M- -151 jeep, the 5-ton truck and the new M-293 automatic 5-ton truck. He was also shown the proper pro cedures for traveling in convoys, blackout condition driving and rough terrain driving. A 1989 graduate of Heppner High School, he joined the Marine Corps in September 1990. Navy Seaman Recruit Matthew S. Howard, son of Kenneth and Maureen Howard, Lexington, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command in San Diego. During Howard’s eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the- job training in one of the Navy’s 85 basic fields. His studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligi ble for three hours of college credit in Physical Education and Hygiene. A 1984 graduate of Heppner High School, he joined the Navy Reserves in December 1990. Debra is a member of Vocational Industries Clubs of America, a national and international club for vocational training at the high school and junior college level. The club specializes in training for competition in skills and leadership to make one ready for competition and advancement in one’s chosen field. Debra will compete at the na tional level in Louisville. Kentucky. Her field is in nursing and medical training. She lives in Spokane. WA where she is receiving instruction. areas. The students also attended seminars and shared their writing with students from other schools. Over 900 students attended the writing festival. According to the students, “ it was a great experience.
