Dave Winters, city maintenance foreman, said that work is expected to begin the middle of August, with a deadline of Sept. 25. In Lexington a non-functioning water pump left citizens without water since Monday evening, Aug. 6. According to Linda Ripple, recorder for the town of Lexington, the problem had not yet been deter mined, Tuesday afternoon, but a well that the city had been planning to use as a backup was expected to be hooked up later that day. IUCC plans special church service By Anne Morter 93 55 AS LOW Parts of Heppner and the town of Lexington were both out of water Aug. 8. In Heppner a rock went through a six-inch mainline on Main Street as a city employee was unearthing a water main to install a six-inch T with a valve. The work is in prepara tion for renovation of the streets and sidewalks on Willow Street from Main to Gale Streets. Because of the broken main, water service was shut off at 9 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Hotel to the Les Schwab store on the east side of Main Street and from Gardner's Men’s Wear to First Interstate Bank on the west side and on Willow Street. Water had to be pumped from the hole where the damage occurred before the new valve could be in stalled.
