Freewater has received the bid for
renovation of Willow Street. Dave
Winters, city maintenance foreman,
said that work is expected to begin
the middle of August, with a
deadline of Sept. 25.
In Lexington a non-functioning
water pump left citizens without
water since Monday evening, Aug.
6.
According to Linda Ripple,
recorder for the town of Lexington,
the problem had not yet been deter
mined, Tuesday afternoon, but a
well that the city had been planning
to use as a backup was expected to
be hooked up later that day. Ripple
kaid that the well had been tested and
had met approval, but the city is ask
ing residents to boil water for cook
ing and drinking as a precautionary
measure.
Ripple said the pump was to be
pulled to find the root of the
problem.

Lexington were both out of water
Aug. 8.
In Heppner a rock went through
a six-inch mainline on Main Street
as a city employee was unearthing
a water main to install a six-inch T
with a valve. The work is in prepara
tion for renovation of the streets and
sidewalks on Willow Street from
Main to Gale Streets.
Because of the broken main, water
service was shut off at 9 a.m. from
St. Patrick’s Hotel to the Les
Schwab store on the east side of
Main Street and from Gardner's
Men’s Wear to First Interstate Bank
on the west side and on Willow
Street. Water had to be pumped from
the hole where the damage occurred
before the new valve could be in
stalled. Water service was restored
around 3:50 p.m.

The Ione United Church of Christ
has a busy Sunday planned for
August 12. The congregation will
start the day with a worship service
and church picnic at Cutsforth Park.
The service starts at 11 a m. and the
picnic will follow. Members are ask
ed to bring musical instruments and
rhythm makers for the service and
“toys” (frisbees, baseball equip
ment, etc.) for after the picnic.
Later that evening at 7:30 p.m. a
special Tiaze service will be held at
the Church in Ione. The Tiaze ser
vice. which originated in France, is
a special prayer and musical service.
The service will be conducted
by two musicians who are also
seminary students at San Anselmo,
Ava Cudsworth and John Grivetti.
“All are welcome for a service of
inspiration, prayer, music and con
templation by candlelight,” said the
Rev. ISa Brown, pastor of the Ione
church.
