Ï I G H T - H ep p n er G azette-T im es, H ep p n er, O regon W ed n esd a y, June 6, 1990 David Hall honored by Penn State University one student in nominating Hall for • the award. “ Despite all the demands o f his fam ily, the department, and his graduate studies, he is always there for students if they should have a problem .” A native o f Heppner, David was very active in the local F F A chapter and served as O regon 's State F F A reporter in 1968-69. Hall worked in W allow a as a vocational agriculture instructor for 11 years prior to join ing the Penn State faculty. Hall was the lone recipient from the 4500 faculty in the Penn State system. The award was established by the Undergraduate Student G overn ment's Academ ic Assem bly and is sponsored by each college. It annual ly honors full-time faculty based on excellence in general advising, academic and career guidance, en thusiasm. and assistance in decision making and goal-setting. “ I try to look at advising on an in dividual le v e l,” Hall says. “ In a large university, you can get caught up in large-scale activities, but ad visers have to remember each stu dent is an individual with a unique background. “ I base my advice on where the student has been and where they want to go, and then give them the freedom to make their own deci sions.” Hall has taught agricultural and extension education at the Universi ty Park campus since 1986, and coordinates the department’ s o c cupational competency evaluations for assessing students' teaching com petencies. He advises nearly one- third o f the University’ s agricultural education majors, the Collegiate F F A Chapter and the Sigma Phi Ep silon fraternity. “ He has a keen interest in help ing his students achieve the goals they have set for themselves," wrote Obituary Debra Connor M em orial services for Debra Kay “ Debbie” Connor were held at the First United Methodist Church in Hermiston on June 4. Ms. Connor, 30, Stanfield, miss ing since M ay 13, 1990, was found dead on Friday, M ay 25, 1990, at C o ld S p rin g s R e s e r v o ir near Hermiston. She was bom Dec. 25, 1959, at Heppner to Skip and Peggy Connor. The fam ily moved to Stanfield 10 years ago from Pilot Rock. She had been working at Colum bia Sun food processing company at Hermiston. Ms. Connor loved hunting, fishing and outdoors activities. She loved .animals.
