Morrow County residents can learn more about school financing by participating in a statewide video teleconference and town hall pro gram Tuesday, April 18. according to Fred Eundin. Oregon State University Extension Agent “ School Funding at the Crossroads" is the theme of the pro gram sponsored by the OSU Extcn sion service Participants will view a live V) minute panel discussion about school funding reform and the May 16 ballot measure and then be able to question panelists There will be an opportunity for local residents to discuss school finance issues after the teleconference ends Panelists Brine W ater, OSU I s tension economist: Richard Munn. director, Oregon Department of Revenue and James Schcr/ingcr. director, Oregon Legislative Revenue Office, are expected to deal with such issues as the dependence of schools upon property taxes amt what the state ballot measure in May would do if voters approve. The teleconference site in Morrow County is located at the Heppner Elks Club The teleconference begins at 7 p m. “ Those with satellite dishes that receive C band may watch on Westar V, transponder 4, channel 4, frequency 3780," Lundin adds, "and Heppner residents can watch on cable channel 1 " In addition, a videotape of the conference will be available for purchase from the E x tension Service after April 20 The video teleconference is one- part of the public affairs educational program offered by Extension about school finance, l.undin notes Weber has also prepared two new publications about school funding which arc available this month. The first, "Oregon School Fun ding: Assessing the Options". EC 1329. outlines the current school funding system, discusses alter natives being considered, and ex amines alternative sources of replacement taxes for property taxes it is available at a cost of 75 cents per copy, plus 25 cents for postage and handling if ordered by mail The second.
