Consumer'» plight An optical illu»K>n, hours of confu»ion Update given on forest service plan To the Editor As 1988 draws to a close it seems appropriate to update the local public on where we re at with the forest plan After the draft was published and comments received. I asked for help from the local public in developing a "preferred alternative" for the future management of the Heppner Ranger District In July and August we hosted a couple of field trips to view on the ground management activities These field trips were well attended and provided the participants a chance to express their likes and dislikes as to how management ac tivities were being conducted on the forest A working committee was then formed to “ roll up their sleeves" and address the issues and concerns expressed by the various interests This committee consisted of a core gniup of volunteers representing the wood products in dustry, recreation, grazing, fish and wildlife, small woodlands owner«, conservationists, the local business com m unity; and county/local government While this core com mittee was the working gnnip. others attended the meetings and provided input to th eir representatives This committee met regularly from Septem ber 20 through November 7 to present their views Lack of communication breeds crisis |'c j '* . * * ' . ,;** ..I * ■ * ,‘t • * ,*t » ■ V ' k i *•' ‘ . r r. ■ .
