J *s I hr H cppner H igh School V olleyball team is looking forward lo a very exciting and competitive scavin Under third year head coach Tern Gentry and axsisiant Pain Dowdy, practice opened August 22 with 23 girls N ow these player* have been divided into three teams (V arsity, Junior Varsity and *C’ Team) o f about 9 players each fh e varsity is returning 7 seniors Hiese include C'hnsty Stroeber. Jill Conklin. Tanu l.indsay, Nance W right. Sandi Turner. Michelle W allis, and Tracey Bond Junior Joanna Welch and sophomore Nikki Brisbois will also see action in var sity uniform . Although this is a fair ly small squad, it has depth and experience Returning setters. W allis and Stroeber. already know the 6-2 o f fense that will he used, so they will he put to the test this season Six-font Lindsay and 5' 10” Turner will an chor die offense in the front row with their hitting and blocking abilities Wright. Conklin, and Bond will add more experience and leadership with 3 years o f volleyball behind them W elch and Brisbois arc strong players and should complement the team nicely. With all this ex perience. the Fillies hope to return to the District Tournament after a 3 year absence " W e should do very well in league play this year, which will hopefully result in a district championship," stated Gentry The Fillies will open the season at the G rant U nion Tournam ent on September 10 at 10 a m Their league opener is September 22 against Wahtonka in TTie Dalles The junior varsity should do well this year with juniors, K elly McLaughlin, Jenny Martin.
