OWtrihutkai David and April Sykes, Publishers Letters to the Editor Band is welcome addition to parade . * ♦ • To the Editor I know that everyone appreciates having a hand in the annual Fair- Rodco parade Bob Ivied and I were pleased that we had such a terrific group to work with Residents of Morrow County are quick to let us directors know how great the hand sounded, hut we'd like to ask you all to take a minute and thank those in dividual musicians also While I like a put on the hack as well as the nest person, a few points need to he cleared up The band at the parade was representative of South Morrow County The musi cians. both youngsters and adults, were from Hcppner. lone and 1**- ington The hand was a joint effort o f Boh Isted and myself and if the truth he told, most of the musical credit goes to Boh I might add that he furnished hot dogs .ind pop out of his pocket for the group after the parade * I'm a little upset when comments are made by people regarding the lack of quality and participation by Hcppner musicians Most of the hand members were from Hcppner and the whole thing would not have happened had it not been for the hard work of Mr Isted (luring the past several years, it has been a joy and privilege to work with Boh and I think Hcppner is most fortunate to have him as a director o f music and member o f the community One of the things that I admire about him is (hat he docs a good job. yet doesn’t feel ihe need to tack his name on everything he docs to build his ego and let everyone know what a hot- shot he is Quality music IS happen ing in Hcppner Take a minute and thank Boh Isted. I'm looking for a fella and maybe some of you folks can help If you spot him, don't let him know I'm looking for him or he's apt to run Because if I find him I’ll skin him alive. It's on account of me and old Bula like to ride in them parades We didn't do too good this year, though OT Bula has this habit of gettm's stage fright just before parade time and not wantin' to get to going. But I sure do like to ride in them Glenn parades. I'd do M every day if there was one And I know of Mime other folks st as crazy. If you was to get all the crazvs in the countv loeether. you'd have a heck of a parade You probably thought the purpose of a parade was so folks could sit on the curb and watch Well that's only part of it The real reason for a parade is so folks like me can ride in it The Benevolent Society o f Old Used Ambulance Owners (BSQUAO) has issued a definitive study pro ving that those folks in the parade have more fun than ÜKise who watch the parade. There are precious few opportunities to parade in a parade One sum mer I traveled all over the Northwest to rule in parades towing a Board man Harvest Festival float (some folks have been repealing the rumor that the Harvest Festival may be hack this year-just a parade I'm told) Well, this fella I’m looking for is die guy that wrote the rule that parades must he held at 10 o'clock on Saturday. And I think he will lead me to the real bad guy and that's the guy that wrote the rule that you can only have a doings with a parade, if Mimebody else is having a doings with a parade the same time. The way I see it. what with the 4th of July parade in lone the same as the 4th o f July parade in Boardman. and with the Watermelon Festival parade in Irngon the same lime as the County Fair parade in Heppner. if there really is going to be a Harvest Festival parade, it'll be on St Patrick's Day for sure WCCC Golf Chamber Chatter ES W ednesday August 17 Low gross Neoma Bailey Low net Harriet Evans and Ber nice Lott. Literally After the elec tricity going on and oft about eight times the other night, I went to bed and woke in the morning to everything in the house blinking The battery had gone dead on the one unblinking clock in the house, so the next course of action was to call time Have you tried that lately? The process went something like this I dialed the 976 number only to be told it had been disconnected. I then searched the phone directory to no avail Next step was to dial 0 for Operator, who told me I would have to call information 1-555-1212. In formation then gave me a choice of two numbers. I had to make the choice Wrong choice That number resulted in a steady beeping signal At this point I was beginning to wonder how important it was that I know the time, but I started over with 0 for operator thinking maybe she was wearing a watch Maybe she was, but she wasn't allowed to give me the time After dialing 16 more digits, a deep male voice informed me "at the tone, the time will he ."
