As parents wc often verbally criticize our children's teachers, when there is a discipline problem, grades are not whal wc think they should he or whatever Wc don't. however, often give praise I know that I personally have had times when the criticism was expressed, but I would like to take this oppor tunny to give some much earned praise Karen Beck has been the math teacher in the seventh and eighth grade o f Heppner Junior High School for the past tw o years It is obs ious from the results o f the math contest that she is doing an excep tional job with our young people lh a n k you. Hogue Cellars in Prosser w ith its well appointed tasting room and retail shop. Preston Wine Cellars just north o f Pasco where the tasting room is on the ro o f o f the winery and gives a commanding stew o f 200 acres o f vineyards, and Bookwalter W inery, tiny facility in an industrial park in Pasco It was quite a diverse group as to size, location and facilities A ll had very good wines and our group made pigs o f themselves both w ith the free samples and with purchases for consumption on the bus At each facility we noticed caber visitors, some places k*s o f them Some industry figures indicate an aveage winery has 10-100.000 visitors a year and most wineries claim retail sales o f ¿5-8 00 per visitor The Boardman Chamber o f Commerce thinks that three or four w ineries strung from W illo w Creek to Um atilla would he an important asset to the economy o f M orrow County W e've had a lot o f fun with our little La Casa de V in . the first winery in Eastern Oregon It doesn't make a big economic spalsh since we only make 6-700 gallons a year, less than the produce from I acre o f mature wmegrapes (and M orrow County has more than 700 acres rapidly coming into production) W e're proud o f the folks who have carried out wines far and wide as a product o f M orrow County W ouldn't it he fun to have a real winery industry right here’’ ¡Gardner's v .- j/.W " v * * '/* t r ? .
