January 23 The Mustangs had to overcome a rough first halt and an interesting trd quarter At the end o f the- Trd quarter, the Musi.ines were behind quarter scoring 24 points over the Redsides 15 Heppner went on to win 74 67 over the Redsides Russell Britt led the Mustangs with 25 points closely followed hy Bryan Padhcrg with 23 and Dick Devin adding 21 points lo n e w ins first gam e o f season • Ml * • * I. Sean Warren By The lone Cardinal hoys leant hosted the Culver Bulldogs Saturday January 23 I he Cardinals who hadn't won a league game were hungry lor a win lone started slow in the first quarter only scoring 9 points For tunately for the Cardinals the Bulldogs were also having a cold shooting quarter The Cardinals came out in the sc eond quarter running They played an aggressive defense that held the Bulldogs to seven second quarter points The Cards look a dim 19-14 lead in the half lime They continued their ag gressiveness into the third quarter holding the Bulldogs to only five points ansi scoring 15 of their own High scorers for the Cardinals were junior Ihisim Padhcrg who scored 16 points and corralcd 15 re- hounds Senior Kevin Ball finished a strong second, adding 11 points ami 7 rebounds • • » ■ • The game was a confidence builder for Ihe Cards who faced the league leading Arlington Honkers Tuesday. January 23 The Fillies started out playing fair ly well hut hy the end ol the hall they were having wimc trouble gening their offense to work The Redsides kept the game cl«>sc hy managing to pul a few baskets in here and (here the Fillies gut a short lead going in to the fourth quarter and kept it to the very end With V seconds left, the Redsides drihbied down the court and broke Ihe Fillic defense The Redsides made a short jump shot and d o u b le tied the game sending il into overtime Three minutes were on the clock as both teams were playing lough defend and smart offense The Red sides scored first, but fouled Hepp ner's Nance Wright, sending her to the line Wright sank both free throws tieing the game up again The KcdsHics came down the floor hop mg for a quick basket, hut failed to do so as the game went into a second overtime Sandi Turner and Tami 1 indsay both fouled «nit in the first over time game, this sent Heppner to their bench for stmik help Com ing off the bench for the Fillies were Beth Heatherly and Niki Brishois O v e rtim e The Redsides scored firu again., but they fouled Nance Wright and sent her to the line with little time left W right made one o f her free thn>ws. hut the Fillies rebounded and scored o ff her second attempt putting them up by I with 4 seconds left Beth Heatherly and Niki Brishois combined with the remain ing starters held off the Redsides for a one point victory ending the second overtime with a score of 42-41 Henrwter Jennifer Cumn led the Fillies with 14 points. 12 rebounds and 7 steals Nance Wright and Tami L indsay also chipped in 9 points each to help the Fillies Rebounding boosts Fillies to win By Jason Dougherty The Fillies defeated the Vikings 65 36 The Fillies out scored the Vikings in all quarters scoring IK.
