A commentary column such 11 this aim* at tome goal or another Some seek to evoke critical thought Some seek to inform, some per suade. some to adviic or counsel. Some column* are funny Other* are venous some appear to have no goal or aim at all. All columns, to some extent or another, are written to salve the ego of the writer. I don't know how this one will (urn out It will he all of the above. I'm afraid. What I do hope to do though, is touch upon some of (he political and social issues of (he County, maybe some that have been untouchable In so doing. I hope lo inform, persuade, counsel and sometimes be fun ny. Most importantly. I hope this experience will be rewarding for you as well as for me. You’ll detect some themes as we go along First. I don’t think we are so big and important that we can squander our energy fighting amongst ourselves You'll find me conciliatory on issues that might divide the county. Secondly, I do think we arc big and strong enough to fight for a place in the big picture, so you'll find me belligerent toward Salem, Washington D C., and even, sometimes, toward the rest of Eastern Oregon I like people and I'll write about them. Mont , on Feb 13. 1906 She moved to Oregon in 1939, liv ing at Echo for a year before mov ing to Heppner where she had res id ed since On Oct. 12. 1950, she married Lloyd A. Moyer at Wmnemucca, Nev. Moyer died in 1977 She was a member of the Degree of Honor and St Patrick Catholic Church in Heppner Survivors include soncs, Don Greenup of Heppner and Clarence Greenup of Portland; there are 14 grandchildren and 34 g re a t grandchildren Sons George and Everett Greenup died earlier. Navy dunng World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then served with the U S Army and was honorably discharged in 1949 He was a member of the American legion.
