Missouri Hicy moved to this area in 1928. There were two types o f people who signed the petition which has led to the ballot before us. One type, which includes myself, does oppose the landfill proposal and would like to see it stopped This opposition is not based solely on environmental concerns (although these arc certain ly a factor), hut rather on the perccp non that Morrow County, and the City o f Boardman in particular, can do much better W c do not want to see the image oi our community soil ed by a designation as ‘ 'Portland's D u m p ". The potential for clean, respectable, community enhancing economic development w ill, wc hclicsc. he greatly diminished when the " o p e n " sign goes up on the dump Yet. there arc others who joined me in signing the petition who are not necessarily opposed to the land fill These citizens signed because they saw deep flaws in the process being used lo evaluate the proposal Their questions were not being adc quatcly answered Their concerns were not clearly addressed Their in put into the proses* was seemingly being ignored These citizens sign ed because they want to have a voice in the future o f our county Some arc now saying that the ballot is contusing This is an open insult to the intelligence o f Morrow County 's voters The initiative w>s ix « designed to he " y e s or n o " vote on the landfill proposal, it wa* designed to he a " y e s " v »«c for citizen involvem ent in a vital economic decision Some are now say ing that a " y e s " s i«c could kill the landfill prospects I hclicsc this to he blatant economic blackmail If the proposal for (he landfill is sound, and its p>«ential for profit high (as wc arc being (old), (hen a onc-ycar delay in a twenty- five year project should make little difference What the citizens oi Morrow county may learn during that yea r co u ld make a big difference I encourage (he *»«crs o f Morrow County lo join me in saying "y e s .
