M a in Fillies start season with win By S han n o n M cLaughlin The Heppner Fillies started the season off right Friday afternoon by making quick work ot the Fcho Cougars The Varsity Fillies pulled off a close win with scores ot I ' Iff. 7-13 and 15 11 Die girls worked well together with cinumunication and tough defense to prevent (he Cougars from taking a win Good offense at the net hy setter Christy Stmcbcr and hit ters Jill Conklin and Sandi Turner, helped keep the game in Hcppner's court Conklin spiked 1003. with 8 5 3 of those resulting in a point or 1 side out Turner added 853 and 4 2 3 , respectively Serving well tor the Fillies was Nance Wright and Turner, again, with 12 14 Coach Terri (»entry feels that the talent is evenly vpread throughout the team and that teamwork will be a key element this season The junior varsity Fillies also started the season with an easy win of 15 8. 15 II Again, Coach Hislcr feels her team is well rounded in all areas and won’t have l«' depend on one or two players to lead the team Duloc Palmer had a gi.nl game with 12 points at the serving line, and Jen ny Martin added 7 points Hisler was pleased with the way her team began the season The Fillies meet with the Umatilla Vikings, at home, m their first league game on Thursday.
