It was a great night for Heppner
Mustang Football as a big crowd saw
the Mustangs season opening 14 0
victory over the Pilot Rock Rivkctv
The Mustang offensive attack was
led by running backs Russell Britt
and Scon Jones, each gaining one
touchdown
In the first quarter Jones ran the
ball in from four yards out as Craig
Angell added (he extra point to lake
a 7-0 lead The touchdown was set
up on a 27 yard pass play from Dick
Devin to Angell
With nine seconds left to go in the
game Britt ran up the middle tour
yards to seal up the victory
The Heppner defense held all
conference running back Jerry
lainkford to -I yard rushing, as
linebackers Jesse Jeffreys and Scott
Davis, and defensive end Barney
Lindsay led the Mustang defense

The Heppner Fillies started the
season off right Friday afternoon by
making quick work ot the Fcho
Cougars The Varsity Fillies pulled
off a close win with scores ot I ' Iff.

Coach Terri (»entry feels that the
talent is evenly vpread throughout
the team and that teamwork will be
a key element this season
The junior varsity Fillies also
started the season with an easy win
of 15 8. 15 II Again, Coach Hislcr
feels her team is well rounded in all
areas and won’t have l«' depend on
one or two players to lead the team
Duloc Palmer had a gi.nl game with
12 points at the serving line, and Jen
ny Martin added 7 points Hisler was
pleased with the way her team began
the season The Fillies meet with the
Umatilla Vikings, at home, m their
first league game on Thursday.
