Pilot Rusk's baseball team out lasted Hcppner's 12-8 on Friday. May 16 The Mustangs finished the year with a 6-12 league and overall record, the identical league mark they had last season on their way to an overall reoerd of 6 14 Singles by Jerry Lankford. Brian Miller. Gary longhorn, and Allan Orr, plus walks issued to Scott Miller and Rick Rasmussen provid ed the Rockets with a 4 0 cushion after the first half inning The Mustangs made it 4-1 after one inning when Scott Davis pound ed a single and came home on Bob Riehl’s single Nine Heppnet hatters came to the plate in the bottom of the second and hounded Rocket ace longhorn with five runs for a 6-4 advantage Troy Hyatt led things off with a walk and went to second on a single by Mark Fishbum Following a walk to Shad Jefferies, the Mustangs had Ihe bases loaded with only one out loran Hayes greeted Dmghorn with a screaming single that scream ed in Hyatt and Fishbum Jefferies, then stole home and Hayes helped execute the double steal by going to second John Kenny then bagged a single after Davis grounded out to score Hayes, and after a stolen base, came home to score on a double by David Pedro, who was stranded at third when Longhorn struck out Richl to end the inning After a 1-2-3 Pilot Rock third in ning. Heppner again threatened to blow the game open in its half of the third With two outs. Joe Taylor walk ed. Jefferies singled, and Hayes singled to load Ihe bases. But Dmghorn got Davis looking and struck out the righthander to escape any further damage In their half of the fourth inning, with two men on. the Rockets' Brian Miller smacked a triple otf Hyatt to score Reed Ixhncrt and lainkford to tie the game at 6 6 The Mustangs added a run in their half of the fourth to go back on top 7-6. with a walk and stole second Rasmussen walked and Eric V T-r singled to load the bases Dmghorn scored on a passed hall and Shipp smacked a triple to score Rasmussen and Eric Miller Pedro, with two outs in the Mustang sixth, singled, advanced to second on an error, went to third on a walk to Hyatt, and scored on a wild pitch But once again Dmghorn got out of the |am by getting Roy Farley on a called third strike Longhorn went the distance lor the Rrvkrts nn ihe mound ami slnick not Kenny led off with a tingle, ad vanccd to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Pedn> The Rockets though, touched Hyatt for three runs in the fifth inn ing to pull ahead V 7 Rasmussen was hit by a pitch. SciNt Davis (who walked), and David Pedro (who reached first on an error) Craig Angell added runs in the sc cond and fourth innings for the Mustangs after reaching first on a single and walk respectively to put Heppner ahead 5-2.
