Rooster Club and has participated in a parent faculty reworking of student activity guide lines She and her husband Merle have two college age children If elected, her first priority would be to insure the best quality educa lion possible for the students of Morrow County. Second priority would lie to insure the most efficient use of the money available to produce quality education "In considering our unique per sonality as a District." she says, "we must tie aware that good communication is essential to Mor row County School District Without it. we cannot possibly understand the specific need» presented by the North and the South of the District Without understanding we cannot give meaningful support to the resolution of those need» With the 'recession' that still has Oregon in its grip and the very real agricultural d isaster that has wounded Morrow County, we are going to need one another more than we ever have in the past It is going to take a strong, united effort to see our people and our schools through the next three to five years She considers the position at large as the best" position on the board since "you are representing all of Morrow County Sue Proudfoot Sue Proudfoot, 35. lone, is cur rently a member of the Morrow County School Budget Committee She has been active with the lone Extension Club, as a 4 H leader, and Hlue Jay leader She and her husband. Paul, have two children. Jason 9 and Megan 5 She received her elementary and secondary education at Scio, Cor v.illi» .irul S' Helen's Hall in Port land Between 1968 and 1972. she attended Pacific Lutheran Univer ally, Oregon State University, and I uncontested I Nancy Brownfield Regina K R Burke O'Brien H Hurke O'Brien. 36. lleppner. is a member of the lleppner Methodist Church, has served two year* on the Rodeo Hoard as secretary and court director, is a member of the Wranglers for which he has three year* as superintendent of the horse show He is a 15 year member of the lleppner Elks Club He and his wife. Ginger, have three school age children He is a graduate of Haker High School and Hlue Mountain Community College with a degree in agriculture If elected to serve on the board his first priority would be to emphasize that all students need a firm grasp of the three basic subjects, mathe matics. "and enrolled them in a private school and then home school to ensure their receiving a Christian and scholastic education " Her first priority if elected to the hoard would be to encourage the appointment of "district and school superintendents who will hold class room teachers accountable for the scholastic achievement of their stu dents She would like to "stop the misuse of our taxes that now subsidize the religion of Humanism, the official doctrine of Government Schools "When you realize." she says, "that we may be paying over $5,ooo per student next year in Morrow County, if the budget passes, and private schools are able to educate their children for one half to one third the coat, and yet the scholastic achievement is higher in the private schools, it has to be more than just an issue of money " Richard l.add 23. lone, has also filed for the position He currently serves as vice chairman of the Morrow County Fair Committee He is also a member of the lone Community Agri Business Organiz ation, the Eastern Columbia Hasin Task Force serving on the site advisor* committee for the Super conducting Super Collider, and is a member of the Oregon Wheat Growers la-ague and the National Rifle Association He graduated from lone High School in 1981 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engine ering Technology from Oregon State t'n iversity in 1985 He is not married Hi* major objective if elected to the advisory committee would be "to effectively utilize fresh ideas within the committee's jurisdiction, toward the preparation of student*' futures "whether they are planning to enter the work force immediately after graduation from high school or to continue their formal education Morrow County will present a $2.960 425 special one year operating levy on two separate ballots The hospital levy is $381.694 which is $36.010 or 8 62 percent less than last year's hospital levy The special levy for the county is $2.568.73!. up 6 61 percent or $169.875 from last year The total levy which appear* on the ballots, however, is $3.500.568 which include* a six percent allow ance for taxes not expected to be received Because the county's tax base is $522.(XX) no electionis requir ed to approve that amount The county's total budget amount 1» $8.243.678 a 0 48 percent or $41.276 decrease from last year's total adopted budget Although the total budget is down, the county's total tax valuation is also down and because county revenues have not been as good as expected during the past year, the total tax levy is up 6 61 percent Nancy Brownfield is on the t»allot for position No 1 She has no previous service in public office but has work»-d as a volunteer for schools and church during the 14 year* she has lived in lleppner She serves as an advisory member for the Small Business Development Center and as secretary treasurer for both the lone Community Agri Business Organization and for the IxHal Independent Insurance Asso elation She was recently appointed to the HMCC budget committee She supports the Continuing Ed ucation program for rural areas She was hired as the lleppner area coordinator for the program in 1976 and continued in that capacity for seven years during which time she became acquainted with the college, the instructional and support staff, and the communities in southern Morrow County Brownfield. 38. and her husband Stephen have three school age daughters She has an Associate Degree in Marketing and Manage ment from HMCC and numerous hours of education in (he insurance field She is now working toward completion of Certified Insurance Counselor designation Her primary objective i* to repre sent Morrow County in its continuing support for the college "My de sire, she says, "to he on the HMCC Hoard come* from a genuine and sincere interest in the operation of the college I think the college is being run very well now. and 1 want to *oe that continue Morrow County needs to have representation on the I « J S . * . -
