Calif .; one brother Richard Seehafer of Pasco. 21 grandchildren and 25 great grand children Funeral services were at 2 p m January 22 at the Hoardman Com munity Church Hurtal followed in the Hoardman Cemetery Burns Mortuary was in charge of arrange ments To the Editor By now. most Oregonians have received their Slate Income Tax booklet and have noticed that their tax rates have been reduced from last year The rates are lower because the 1985 legislature eliminated the eight percent income tax surcharge that was initiated in 1981 We determined that the surcharge could he elimin aled and that our major obligations for providing services could still be met The law requires the legislature to balance the state's budget "D el K it spending" cannot occur» in Oregon government But there are powerful pressures to spend more each year and to increase taxes to pav for additional spending In spite of these pressures, the cost ot stale government in Oregon w ill increase at less than the rate of inflation for the fourth consecutive biennium The hard budget decisions w ill be with us for a while longer, and our tax reform work is not finished either As the public continues to demand that we hold the line on laves, we must proceed with the difficult task of reforming our school finance and property tax systems With this challenge ahead of us. i irrgomans can take comfort from the reduction in state income lax rate* It shows that we re on the right track Yours truly, Steve .Markovich Senate M ajority leader Mary Klizabeth Hunt Mary Elizabeth Hunt.
