Oct 9 while he and Richard Mcawley were being transported back to the (iregon State I'enitentiary following the jury trial in which McCuwley was found guilty of Robbery I. a charge stemming from the robbery at the lone Branch of the Hank of Eastern Oregon last spring Krebs who pleaded guilty to charges earlier had been in Morrow County to testify at the trial Morrow County Sheriff Roy Drago said that near Salem. Krebs who had somehow managed to free one hand from handcuffs which connected both of his hands to a chain reached through the window which isolates the back seal He said that deputies had opened the window because Krebs and McCawley had complain ed that there was not enough air in the back seat As Krebs got his hand on Deputy Kankms gun. Hankins, who was driving blocked Kreba arm with his shoulder and Deputy Cal dara was then able to push Krebs back into the back seat Krebs only managed to get his hand on the gun.
