Morrow County 4(HI Extension Agrnt The Oregon 4 II program has the largest number of volunteers of any youth program in the state Volun leers are essential for the successful experience and the delivery of 4-H education to youth In 198.1. there were 5,97V adult volunteers working with the program In addition, there were 1.036 junior and teen leaders The Junior leaders were in grades 7 through v and the teen leaders. 10 through 12 Junior leaders work with adults In a leadership role, while teen leaders are 4 II members who work with a group of young people themselves Teen leaders have adult advisors to help them Volunteer leaders assist youth in 4 II educational projects and a c tiv i ties In addition, many have served on county 4-H advisory committees, and state planning groups The average 4-H volunteer do nates 220 hours per year in prepar mg for and teaching youth Thus, for each hour the salaried staff member spends in 4 H an average volunteer spends 12 hours Volunteers drive an average of 300 400 miles for 4 II in personlly owned cars and spen 450 t6o on teaching materials The estimated value of the time volun leers devote to 4 11 plus the annual out of pocket expenses is about 46.000.000 annually There is also substantial involve ment and assistance to the 4 11 program by resource people, by business and industry, agricultural and civic groups, most of which are not included in the volunteer leader ship roles above New wild game book available Hv B IH IIIN E TV 1X18 Morrow County OSI Extension Nervier Just in time to offer help to both hunters and homemakers, a new publication "You and Your Wild Game" lEC 1176), Is hot off the press at Oregon State University Somewhat different in appearance to most bulletins, this publication is a 74 page spiral bound book Con tents provide guidance on handling procedures for deer, antelope, elk. moose, sheep, and goats, as well as recipes The complete recipe sec tion includes making jerky, sausage, and even other foods that are good to accompany the wild game The book was authored by Ray A Field, Prof of Animal Science.
