Morrow County Fair and Rodeo Premium Book-THIRTY-SEVEN 4-H MARKET STOCK SALE FFA Sale Committee : Merlin Hughes, Bob Van Schoiack, Tom Currin, Wayne Evans, Ed Brosnan. Sponsored by the Morrow County Livestock Growers Association Wednesday, August 24, 8 p.m. MARKET ANIMALS ARE SHOWN AS ONE BREED. Classes are divided by weight RULES: 1. All market livestock mutt be on the grounds by 10 a.m. Monday, August 22. I. All sheep and hogs must be owned and in possession of 4-H or FFA member for at least 60 days. A "T Certificate" must be turned in at the time of weighing steers. This is a bill of sale from the original owner of the animal to the member. The cost is $1.15 which is usually paid by the teller of the animal. 'T Certificates" may be obtained from Jean Bennett or other brand inspectors. All steers must be in the possession of the member by April 1, 1984. 3. All sale animals must have been exhibited in their proper classes at the 1983 Morrow County Fair. 4. Each exhibitor is limited to the sale of any two exhibits except that both sale exhibits cannot be steers. The following are examples of permissible sale combinations: 1) one steer and one hog or lamb, 2) two lambs, 3) one hog and one lamb, 4) two hogs, S) one hog and one steer, C) one steer and a pen of three fryer chickens, 7) any two pens of small animals, I) one hog and a pen of three fryer rabbits, etc. with the provision that all sale animals must be judged as fat stock. All small animals will be told by the exhibitor. 5. All steers must grade USDA good or better to sell. All lambs must grade L'SDA good or better to sell. All hogs must grade USDA No. 3 or better to sell. 6. The animala weight limitations will be evaluated by a qualified judge who will estimate if beef will grade good, choice (or better); if sheep will grade choice (or better) and if hogs will grade U.S. No. 1, No. 2, or No. 3. The judges estimates will be based on exterior finish and conformation. Actual grade of beef will be influenced primarily by marbling. 7. Animals will not be permitted in sale if underweight or overweight. All weights are AFTER pencil shrink. Steers must weigh 97S to 1350 lbs. Lambs must weigh 90 to 140 lbs. Hogs must weigh 195 to 250 lbs. 8. Shrinkage: All sale animals will be weighed off the truck, Monday, August 13. A three percent shrinkage will be given to all animals hauled 10 miles or less. A two percent shirnkage will be given to all animals hauled more than 10 miles. A four percent shrinkage will be given to all animals brought in the night before fair weighin. 9. All market animals are consigned to the auction sale unless excused by the sale committee. 10. There is unlimited bidding on 4-H and FFA grand champion animals. The reserve champions can sell for the same as the lowest -priced grand champion animal, but no more. Other animals cannot sell for more than the lowest-priced reserve grand champion of the same species. II. Market steers to be led to specified corral after sale. 12. Rate of Gain, Live Placing by Morrow County Livestock Growers Association ...designed to encourage the production of meat-type animals which meet he demands of today's consumer, as well as provide an educational program for participants. To participate, members must weigh animals on designated date in spring, and on arrival at county fair. To be eligible for this award, members must submit an up-to-date Feed and Growth Record at the time of final weigh-in Monday morning. Awards: First $100. Second $70, Third - $40, Fourth $30, Fifth - $20 Awards: First $100, Second - $70, Third $40. Fourth $30, Fifth - $20. 1. GRAND CHAMPION STEER, SWINE, OR SHEEP TROPHY by Pendleton Grain Growers . . . trophy awarded at PGG Annual Meeting. Member must have used PGG feed. Trophy awarded on carcass placings only when this Information is available. PGG provides trophy. 2. HEREFORD AWARD by OWNI (Oregon, Washington, Northern Idaho Hereford Assoc.) Kris Bennett, Rt. 1, Box 41, Echo, OR 97826 ... to qualify, an exhibitor must show one or more (horned) Hereford as follows : 1) Hereford steer; 2) Breeding female registered with the American Hereford Association (horned); 3) Be currently enrolled in 4-H or FFA; 4) Show evidence that market animals were sired by a horned Hereford bull. This award is to be given only if there are five or more exhibitor in any combination of market and breeding classes. Judge of beef classes will determine the Outstanding Hereford Exhibitor. When possible, an OWNIIiA member will present award. 3. OUTSTANDING 4-H and-or OUTSTANDING FFA ANGUS EXHIBITOR - silver trophy by Western Staters Angus Auxiliary; 1650 Peterson Rd., Burlington, Washington . . . selection of the winner is to be based on showring placing of individual animals, placings in showmanship and in cooperation with the fair management. This is open to exhibitort with one or more breeding andr market animals. It must be kept in mind that the purpose of this award is the promotion of the Angus breed. The winning of the auxiliary trophy in previous years shall not exclude an exhibitor from winning it again. The judge of the Junior Beef Show will be asked to make the selection of the winner. 4. Hattan Rd., Oregon City, OR . . . selection of the winner is to be based on the placing of the animal (s) shown, his placing in showmanship, his herdsmanship and sportsmanship. Exhibitors are eligible who apply for this award and show breeding and-or market Polled Herefords. Breeding animals must be registered in the exhibitor's name. Registration papers must be supplied when signing up for this award. Exhibitors of market animals must submit proof of registry of sire or dam.
