Gun Club HAM & BACON SHOOT Sunday, June 10 Lexington Grange Everybody Welcome $3pr,on $10 worth of Ham or Bacon to the Winner! Sixty-five fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from Morrow County school dist rict's four Elementary School competed in a math contest at Heppner Elementary School on Tuesday, May 29. Contest winners for each grade level were determined by the results scored on a 40-problem contest examina tion which was followed by five additional, more difficult tie-breaker problems, announ ced a spokesperson for the contest. Fourth grade winners were as follows: first Michael Helsley, Sam Boardman ; sec ond - Jana Mounts, Sam Bo ardman; third - Mina Gin, Sam Boardman ; fourth - Amy Pointer, lone; fifth - Tracey McCorkle, Sam Boa- iman; a tie for sixth among Brandi Ball of lone, Mikka Evans of A.C. Houghton, and Brent Sheirbon of lone; ninth - Lain ie Perez, Sam Boardman; and tenth - Jason Cross, Sam Boardman. Top scores in the sixth grade were posted by : first - Steph anie Starke, Sam Boardman; second - Mary Stevens, Sam Boardman; third - Teresa Fuentei, Sam Boardman; fourth - Tina Douglas, Sam Boardman; fifth Lori Mc Cabe, lone; a tie for sixth between Jim Davison of lone and Wendy Dawson of Sam Boardman; a tie for eighth between Russell Jensen of Sam Boardman and Linda Morter of lone; and tenth -Matthew Andreason, Sam Boardman. Place ribbons were awarded to the top 10 students in each grade and a plaque was given to the first place winner in each grade. The elementary math con test was designed to recognize and encourage students who have excelled in their achieve ment in mathematics. "Stu dents qualified for the district contest by placing in a similar school level contest that was held earlier in the spring," aaid John Edmundson, co chairman for the contest. The evening activity con cluded with a group relay in which mixed teams of stu dents from different schools and grade levels competed against one another. Two teams tied for first place. The team members will receive beverage gift certificates from local restaurants includ ing : Beecher's Cafe in lone ; C & D Drive-In in Boardman; Stoke's Landing Restaurant in Irrigon ; and R 4 W Drive-In in Heppner. Contest co-chairman Ed mundson and Mick Tolar ex pressed appreciation to the many teachers and parents who helped with leading the contests, grading papers and providing transportation.
