Morrow County school dist
rict's four Elementary School
competed in a math contest at
Heppner Elementary School
on Tuesday, May 29.
Contest winners for each
grade level were determined
by the results scored on a
40-problem contest examina
tion which was followed by
five additional, more difficult
tie-breaker problems, announ
ced a spokesperson for the
contest.
Fourth grade winners were
as follows: first Michael
Helsley, Sam Boardman ; sec
ond - Jana Mounts, Sam Bo
ardman; third - Mina Gin,
Sam Boardman ; fourth - Amy
Pointer, lone; fifth - Tracey
McCorkle, Sam Boa- iman; a

each grade.
The elementary math con
test was designed to recognize
and encourage students who
have excelled in their achieve
ment in mathematics. "Stu
dents qualified for the district
contest by placing in a similar
school level contest that was
held earlier in the spring,"
aaid John Edmundson, co
chairman for the contest.
The evening activity con
cluded with a group relay in
which mixed teams of stu
dents from different schools
and grade levels competed
against one another. Two
teams tied for first place. The
team members will receive
beverage gift certificates
from local restaurants includ
ing : Beecher's Cafe in lone ; C
& D Drive-In in Boardman;
Stoke's Landing Restaurant in
Irrigon ; and R 4 W Drive-In in
Heppner.

many teachers and parents
who helped with leading the
contests, grading papers and
providing transportation. Par
ticular thanks was extended to
