I - 1 David and April litfton Kes, ruDusncr i Editorial Urging a 'yes vote on county school budget You won't find any "surprises" in the 1934-85 Morrow County School budget; you wUIbesked to approve it in next Tuesday's election. What you will find is a sound budget, devoted to giving our children a good education. The budget committee and administrators have worked hard to come up with a budget that will provide for the quality education we all want for our students in Morrow County. During its deliberations, the committee has eliminated and cut funds, consequently pre senting you, the voter, with a sound financial package we all can live with. Any further cuts would impair the educational quality of the - school system in our county. We urge you to vote next Tuesday and -vote "yes" for the school budget. lone grad receiving Est UcEctald We're Over Stocked With Used Cars & Trucks! Dugger explained that some landscaping is being done belcw the dam and near the Alfalfa St. Bridge and fiii material was needed for the project. If the lake level was at the higher elevation, the soil would be covered, with water. The corps does expect to raise the elevation to 2,063 ft. when the landscaping is com plete, possibly in April, Dug ger said. March 12, 1984 LETTERS Encourages To the editor: I Wiah tO CRCuuTagfi Support for the Morrow County School District operating budget for the coming school year. Sup port makes good sense both economically and educational ly. For one of the lowest tax rates in the state, Morrow County Schoq District offers both a sound basic educational program as well as opportuni ties for students with special interests and needs. The program which pro vides opportunities for aca demically talented students to develop thinking skills, re eatch topics of special inte rest, and participate in com petition in skill areas is a good example of the kind of pro Think positive To the editor: I .am JoAnn Taylor. I am taking pre-physical therap py at Blue Mountain Commu nity College. 1 really have enjoyed BMCC this year. It has given me a chance to meet new, interesting friends. It has also given me a chance to stay home with my family and be able to work on my father's farm. I have another good reason I am glad Blue Mountain is Vote in favor of To the editor: I am writing to express my support and encourage all other voters to support the upcoming Morrow Co. Schools' operating levy elec tion. I think the budget com mittee has done a very good job of preparing this budget proposal and it deserves the support of voters. There are several new and exciting things going on in the schools, brought about in part by the Talented and Gifted Program, started a couple of years ago. Just to list a few, the District-wide Math Con test, the Quiz Bowl in the north end of the county, additional Support our children and youth To the editor: Our children and youth are our most important product! Not only our own, but every body else's, too. One of the major factors in a child's life during his or her growing-up years is the school system. Although it is very difficult to always be all things to all people all the time, the school board, administrators, teachers, classified personnel and numerous volunteers try to do their very best for our children. The school budget commit tee has tried to give as much value per dollar of taxes as possible. The Heppner Advi lone City Council city cleanup April has been declared "City Cleanup Month" by the Ion? While this program is still in the beginning stages of development. Morrow County is far ahead of other districts (many with more resources ir. personnel and funding) that have not begun to plan educational opportuni ties for the advanced student. This is just one example of the many ways that the school district attempts to provide appropriate educational op portunities for its students at the lowest possible cost. Please support these efforts. Sincerely, (s) Linda A.Shaw Reading Specialist Heppner Elementary School for BMCC here. My mother has had arthritis for many years, so I need to stay home and take care of her. So you see, if BMCC weren't here, I would not be able to go to college. I hope you will take this information and use it in a positive way and vote "yes" on the Blue Mountain budget March 27th. All these programs add very little to the annual budget, but provide a needed outlet for the talents of students that are not chal lenged enough with the regu lar school curriculum. Again, I would like to ask that all voters get out and vote, and vote in favor of the budget for the Morrow County Schools. r Sincerely yours, , (s) Ed Struthers Advisory Board Member sory Committee spent six hours oging over every item in the budgets for the Heppner schools and cut some items. Then the county-wide budget committee spent another six hours working on the budgets of all the areas and cut some more items. I don't know of any item still in the budget that could be "cut" without eliminating something we need for our children's educa tion. Vote for 'Hands on' experience To the editor: My name is Eugene Hawes and I am a student at Blue Mountain Community College. My home town i Hereford, Oregon and I am 19 years old. This is my second year at Blue Mountain majoring in Agri culture Production. I chose BMCC because it is the only community college in Oregon that offers all three technological areas of agricul ture (production, business and mechanics). Other reasons for attending BMCC are that it is close to home, the campus is smaller and gives students a chance to build a closer working rela tionship with the instructors. BMCC has many advantages To the editor: I am writing this letter in regard to the March 27th election in w hich the budget of BMCC win be decided. I am a freshman at BMCC this year and am majoring in accounting. While here, I've found going to a small com munity college has many ad vantages. One such advantage is small classrooms and more individual attention to the stu dents by the instructors. This helps a lot when you are at a point where you just don't understand anything. Another great advantage is the cost. It's very inexpensive and the tuition is practically free be cause of the equalization fac Student rep. urges yes' vote To the editor: I, Rhonda Thompson, am currently a student at BMCC, majoring in science. I also am a representative for the stu dents there. Being part of the student council has made me more aware of the issues involving our school. BMCC has made it possible for me to be able to live at . home, in Echo, and attend a small college which was not such a big adjustment for me as if I had gone to a four-year college. Show appreciation To the editor: The people of Morrow Coun ty, on March 27, 1984, have the opportunity to show their ap preciation for the excellent educational opportunities given their children. The diamond is the hardest substance on earth. Together they symbolize a strong, unending love. The favorite betrothal ring is a single damond perched upon a delicate crown of gold or platinum. On the day the vows are spoken it is wedded to a simple circlet or a lace of diamonds woven in gold.
