Thursday evening two past -presidents, Hay Boyce and Fred Toombs, joined the task force to contribute some of their accumulated wisdom. President Harley Sager led the group in a careful study of the organization's current by laws, which it is agreed, need some updating. The naming of committees for the year was completed after much careful discussion. President Sager determined to place at least one person from the board on each of the committees. Sometimes that director will act as the com-, mittee chairman, often he will simply assist the chairman designated and will be a laison person. A few committees hapjieri to contain more than one director. FY CONKUN (one's Jr. High boys' bas ketball team beat the Wheeler Co Falcons 50-25 on Tuesday, Jan 24 The Cardinals jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter. Ken Snider and Tim Beeson tossed six and five in respec tively. lone increased its lead to 31 to nine at halftime by out scoring Wheeler Co. 18-7 in the second stanza Snider scored eight points in the third period as the Cardi nals lead was 44 to 10. The Falcons out-scored lone 15-6 in the fourth quarter, but it didn't matter as the Cards won 50-25. Snider led lone with 19 points, followed by Beeson with einht and Dustin Padberg with eight. From the free throw line, lone shot 60 percent on six of ten shots. The Falcons were seven of 12 for 51 percent. " Jeff Schott and Mark Craig scored 12 and 10 points re spectively for Wheeler Co. children. James Williams served time in San Quentin after a gun battle with police. Heppner's rebounding did improve as the game went on. At the end of the second quarter the Fillies were ahead 26 - 21. The game was tied at 41 with three seconds left, and Ione's Jerrv Anderson hit the front end of a one and one to give lone the victory. Rietmann led all scorers with his 16 points. Homer and Rick Mangum led the Falcons with 13 and 10 points respec tively. The Fillies were really get ting into foul trouble which really hurt. But when the Fillies took the balla down court they passed If around and were patient until there was an open shot. Heppner did have a few points up on Wahtonka and kept those until the end of the third quarter when the scoreboard showed 34-30 in Heppner's favor. The fourth quarter was a big one for both teams. Heppner was playing good team ball with Wahtonka on offense, the Eagles forced the Fillies to move around quickly because their passes were fast. The score was tied with about 30 seconds left and the Fillies had possession of the ball. The score remained tied at 42 when time ran out. The pressure was on for both teams when the ball was up to start the clock for the 54-17 The Blue Devils ended the Game .winning hv a 54-17 margin . Greta La Rue led a very balanced Condon scoring at tack with nine points. Hams had 13 for lone. At the foul line the Blue Devils made f woof three shots for 67 percent . The tip off went to the Fillies and they took if all the way in for two points to put them ahead. Wahtonka then took the bail down court and scored. As the Fillies took the ball back down court Wahtonka came on for the steal. Back on defense Heppner was playing tough, keeping Wahtonka outside. Heppner started to foul which put Wahtonka at the line. Heppner. still having a chance but with Wahtonka in the lead by four, hustled down to put the ball up. A great game was played by both teams but Wahtonka was ahead when the buzzer went off. The final score was 48-52. "Overall I thought we played well except for a couple key turnovers late in the fourth quarter. We hit six more field goals than Wahton ka. but they hit 22 of 26 free throws and that was the diffe rence. When a team shoots that well from the line, their tough to beat." said Heppner Coach Mike Royer. Pam Orr had 12 points for the Fillies while Jodi Padberg had 10. Lana Reid had eight rebounds. Stephi Payne had six assists and Orr had four steals. On Friday. Feb. 3 Heppner will travel to Maupin for a 6 p.m. game with Wasco County. This Saturday, the Fillies will host No. two ranked Sherman County at 6 p.m. Last week the Heppner team was ranked eighth in state. However, because of a loss to Wahtonka. their position has slipped. The undefeated Sherman Co. team shows a record of 14 wins. Heppner stands at 12-3. "It's a big game for us. We need a couple more league wins to wrap up a first place win. The girls are looking forward to playing a high caliber team. I think we're very capable of beating them." said Royer.
