Heath, 63, retired recently after working at on equipment operation for the corporation for over 16 year. lone girls defeated by Heppner Fillies By ASHLEY CONKLIN The lone girls' basketball team fell to 2-5 on Saturday, Dec. 17 as they were beaten by the Heppner Fillies 74 to 16. Heppner ran out to a 24-S lead after the first quarter. Jodi Padberg had eight for the Fillies and Deena Hams three for the Cardinals. The Fillies took a 50 to six halftime advantage by out scoring lone 26-3 in the second stanza. Heppner jumped out to a 15 to 10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Craig Hams and Randy McCabe both scored four points for lone as John Martin scored six for Hep pner. The Mustangs led the Car dinals 29 to 21 at halftime by outscoring lone 14-11 in the second period. In the third quarter lone was outscored 12 to 8 as Heppner's lead increased to 41-29. The Mustangs made 35 percent on 21 of 60 shots. McCabe hit for 10 points while Meyers and Darrin Padberg collected eight for lone. Orr and Mark Way scored 17 and 11 respectively for Hep pner. lone was out-rebounded 27-20. McCabe had 13 boards for the Cards. Cardinals are now 4-1. Both teams kept pace with one another in the first stanza, producing a 7 to 7 tie. Chris Rea scored four points 1 for lone. . The Cardinals took a half time lead of 16 to 13 by out-scorinR the Pirates nine to Soroptimist contest winners attend luncheon Eric Thompson Youth Citizenship Award winners and winners of a coloring contest attended a Soroptimist luncheon at the Hpepner Elks Lodge last Thursday. Winners of the citizenship awards were Cathy Lindsay, first place, a $100 award, and Eric Thompson, second place, a $75 award. Both are seniors at Heppner High School. Lind say plans to attend the Uni versity of Portland where she will major in accounting. Thompson wants to enroll at Oregon State University of the University of Washington and major in engineering. The Youth Citizenship Awards are sponsored annual ly by the Heppner Soroptimist Club. Winners of a Soroptimist sponsored coloring contest were presented with their awards during the luncheon. There were three divisions featured in the contest: pre school and kindergarten, first and second grade, and third and fourth grade. First second and third place winners were selected by Soroptimist Club members for each division. First place winners ' were Kristen Elliott. John Quails and Shannon Elliott. Livestock club meets Bv MARY OSMIN The Heppner Livestock Club met on Thursday. Dec. 15. Members studied wholesale cuts of pork and breeds of swine.
