The focal point of this history is the Lone Pine School House, more commonly known as the Madison School House, near Madison Butte. This school house is the last remnant of the many frontier school houses that used to grace the Obituaries Flossie Evelyn Marick IONE Flossie Evelyn Marick. 61, of lone, died thursday, April 28, 1983, at her home. She was born at Fox De cember 18, 1921. She was raised in Grant County and attended schools at Fox and Mt. Vernon. She lived at Olex before moving to lone in 1959. She worked at the lone schools' cafeteria. Mrs. Marick was a member of the St. William's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Willows Grange. Recitation of the rosary was Sunday at St. William's Catho lic Church in lone. Funeral Mass was said Monday at the church. Graveside services and burial were at St. Joseph Cemetery, Condon. She was preceded in death by her husband. Aiphons, and a son. Bennie. Survivors include her mother. Tina A. Lot ton, Con don: four sons: Ed of Stan field. David of Dufur, Nick of South San Francisco, Calif., and John of lone; daughters Evelyn Lancaster, Heppner, and Laura Paullus. Meridian, Idaho: brother Ben Lofton, Oxnard. Calif.: four sisters: Bertina Carey of Hermiston, Lennie Mann of Prineville. Delphine Feirkbeiner of Grass Ranch. Mont., and Annabelle Jaeger. Condon; 14 grand children; and four great grandchildren. Burns Mortuary, Hermiston was in charge of arrange ments. Senior News Cherry Webber's Heppner kindergarten class will sing at the Heppner Senior Mealsite on Wednesday, May 11. Announcements at the mealsite begin at 11:50 a.m. each Wednesday (unless otherwise announced) with dinner served promptly at 12 noon to allow time for enter tainment. OR. 97839 County sheriffs deputy to graduate Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy Bill Calders is to gra duate from the Oregon Police Academy at Monmouth on Friday. May 6. in a 1 p.m. ceremony, announced Paul Bettiol. executive director of the Board on Police Stan dards and Training. Caldera. 21. was a student in the Basic Law Enforcement Class No. 111. He joined the Morrow Co. Sheriff's Department in Jan uary. The Academy is an integral part of the training program administered by the Oregon Board on Police Standards and Training (B.P.S.T.). and is designed to furnish training for law enforcement, correc tions and parole and probation officers from throughout the state. The 35 students graduating from the seven-week police course will be joining 4.038 other police officers who have successfully completed the academy in previous classes. Thirty different agencies are represented by graduates of this class. Bettoil said. The group needed some practice on hand sewing so Mrs. Pearson started mem bers on cross-stitch embroi dery. Road Report The Morrow County Public Works Department has re leased the following Road Report for the week of April 25-29: Roads that were bladed in the county this past week were: Jerry Dougherty. McElligott. Airport, Halvor sen to Eight Mile, Ridge Road V. Dalzell and Lena-Hisler. Cold patching was done on: Myers. M. Baker. Ella. East and West Ella. Baker and Zinter in the south end of the county. North end county roads that were bladed in cluded: Kunze. Root Lane, Rippee. Tom Camp, Wilson, South Main-Kinkade, Irrigon Washington and Irrigon Ordnance. Pine City. Ella and Myers roads were broomed, with ditch work done on Halvorsen to Eight Mile and shoulder work done on Pine City Road. Culvert extensions were installed on Dick Smith McNabb West and Halvorsen to Eight Mile, as well as culverts and fchoulders being cleaned. Road and shoulder widening was done on Pine City Road and Ruggs-Jordan section of Rhea Creek Road. Gravel was stock piled for future resealing projects on M. Baker. Pine City, Palma teer. Ely Canyon and Halvor sen to Eight Mile and the north end of lone-Gooseberry. Gravel was spread on Jerry Dougherty, Pine City and Halvorsen to Eight Mile and the north end of lone-Gooseberry.
