The lone Cardinals played their second to last match of the season against the Umatilla Vikings and are working toward ex cellent play at the district. In boys' action. Roger Childers and Jeff Ball de feated Deanna Dixon and Bev Dornan 11-9 in a doubles Pro Set. Eric Pointer defeated Lori Donaldson 7-6. 7-5. bet tering his record by one. Roger Childers also defeated Wendy Green 6-0. 6-1 in singles and Craig Gutierrez defeated Eanna Dixon 6-4. 6-1. bringing his record to five and one. Sharon Crowell. V r phoe by Wcne Harm The Heppner High School rodeo team took first place In the Hermiston High School Rodeo held Sunday. May 1. Team scores were: Heppner R7. Redmond B6'li and Uma tilla R2. Pat Schwarz and Mike Cur rin look first and second places respectively In the calf roping. Schwari took fourth place in the steer wrestling, while Mike Currin placed fifth. Jack McGuire took eighth and Steve Currin placed ninth in that event. Mike Currin and Sieve Currin won third place in the team roping and Jack McGuire and his partner took fifth in that event. Hank Vazza took second in the cow cutting. In girls' action. Tara Maho ney placed first in cow cutting, second In gnat tying and fifth in poles. Trlsha Mahoney took seventh in poles and sixth in breakaway roping. Rita Ramond was all around cowgirl with 26 points and John Opie with 25 points was all-around cowboy. For Heppner boys, Mike Currin had 23 and Pat Schwa rz had 17. April 30, the lone thinclads emerged victorious with 205 points. One school record was set by Mike Douglas. He ran the 1.500 meters in 4:32.0 for second place: breaking his previous record of 4:35.2. He won the 3.000 meters clocking 10:10.0 and was on the first place 400-meter relay team of Darrin Padberg, Scott Barnett and Don Doherty that ran it in :54 6. Senior Don Taylor had an impressive day, collecting 32 points by winning the 110 meter high and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, showing :16 6 and :43 1 times respec- finish line at Big Sky Conference track meet in Condon tively. He also pole vaulted Earning three seconds and a nine feet for second and sprin ted the 100 meters in : 11.9. Winning the pole vault at 9'6" was Randy McCabe. McCabe triple jumped 38'2" to gain third, ran the high hur dles in a :20.2 time finishing third and tossed the discus 117'4" getting fourth. Denny Starr was a double winner, throwing the javelin 1574" and the discus 1321. Putting the shot 40,10", he got fourth place and was on the 1.600-meter relay team con sisting of Brian Douglas, mark Meyers and Darrin Padberg. The relay team took third place. By pole vaulting 8'6", Pad berg placed third. He also took a fourth by running :20.4 in the high hurdles. fourth was Craig Hams. Long jumping 19'6", triple jumping 399". tossing the javelin 1342" were seconds, and a :24.5 200 meter time was a fourth place win. High jumping 6'4", Tim Patton was first and heaving the shot 403" he took sixth. Also putting the shot was Don Doherty who earned a fifth with a 405V put. He also ran the 100. The tourna ment committee notable play award went to Doug Burum. For the host Heppner club, John Edmundson took low gross honors with a score of 65. followed by Ed Hiemstra in second place at 70 and Ron Bowman. Rick Johnston and Doua Smith at 71 for a three way tie for third place. In net play. Heppner's George Waterland placed first. Roy Martin and Barry Munkers were tied for second: and John McCabe and Stan Sporseen tied for fourth. Special event winners were Charlie Starks, Jim McCabe and John Edmundson for closest to pin awards and Gary Watkins for long drive. The next interclub visitation will beat Echo on Sunday, May 22. All men and women planning to travel to Echo should sign up at the club house, said a spokesperson. Lunch will be served at this interclub tournament. Over the Tee Cup Beverly Gunderson, Su zanne Jepsen and Mary Beamer were winners in ladies' team play last Tues day, April 26, at Willow Creek Country Club. Vickie Sime won low gross. Muriel Palmer took the low net award and Beverly Wilson had the least putts with 13. Women's play begins every Tuesday at the country club at 0:30a.m. with coffee served at 9 a m. First of all. the Cardinals clashed racquets with the Echo Cougars. But since Echo has minimal players, there were only two matches played In those matches, Roger Childers and Jeff Ball were defeated by Bruce Bechtel and Andy Sailor 2-6, 0-6 and Sharon Crowell and Paula Anderson were defeated by Patsy Seifer and Missv Davis M. 44$.
