I urge you to vote in favor of that budget. The increase is only five cents per thousand asses sed valuation. For the past four years, I've been involved in BMCC's Adult Education Program as the teacher in Heppner. The adult program here as well as in Boardman, Hermiston, Pendleton and Milton-Free-water provides an opportunity for adults to choose from several options. Adults can study for the GED examina tion or earn credits toward a BMCC high school diploma. They can strengthen their skills in English, math or Keep it To the editor: I am a second year student at Blue Mountain Community College and I am urging all the voters of Umatilla and Mor row counties to vote "Yes" March 29 for the budget levy. There are several good rea sons to pass this levy for Blue Mountain. The first is for the people of the two counties. Blue Mountain Community College provides good quality education at one-third of the cost of a four-year institution. In these times of economic hardship it is important to get the most from your money, and education is no exception. Blue Mountain Community College has many programs that cater to diversified inte rests. The instructors here at Blue Mountain truly care about the student and the quality of education he-she is receiving. By obtaining your Vote 'Yes' To the editor: March 29. 1983. Blue Moun tain Community College sub mits its budget to the district voters for approval. The board of directors and budget com mittee have developed an ex tremely tight budget with a total tax levy increase of only 3.5 percent. BMCC does not have a tax base and must submit a bud get for approval by the district voters each year. The voters in Morrow County have al ways been supportive of the college and we do benefit from Important to To the editor: I am a student at Blue Mountain Community College. I live near Burns, but have come all the way up here to go to school, mainly because I think it's the best college of all my choices. The tuition here is only one-third of what it is at a state college and I feel that you learn a lot more in a smaller school. Many of the classes offered here are transferable to larger schools so your credits trans fer with you and you don't have to spend so much more time and money at a larger NOTICE The Town of Lexington is offering a $100 REWARD for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in theft andor vandalism of the Town's street signs. Non-English speak ing adults can use the pro gram to learn English as a second language. For some high school seniors, it pro vides an opportunity for them to make up deficient credits. Presently, we have adults enrolled in all of these areas. The importance and need of BMCC's Adult Education Pro gram seems obvious since our enrollment keeps increasing throughout the two counties. It's exciting to think a com munity the size of Heppner can provide adult education for its citizens. Personally, it's rewarding to witness the suc cess of adults who have achieved their goals. BMCC's Adult Education Program needs your support. Vote "Yes" on March 29. Joy Krein Adult Education Instructor Heppner. Oregon that way degree at BMCC you are sure you have received the quality of education you deserve. Also, if you decide to go on to a larger institution, you have received a very solid basis to continue your education with. By passing the levy on March 29 you will not only help the students already here, but will continue to draw students from surrounding areas to BMCC. thus helping the econ omy of our own area. I'm sure everyone knows or has known someone who has attended BMCC, so if you have any doubts, ask them how much BMCC helped them. BMCC has been known for its quality of education and instructors, let's keep it that way. Vote "Yes" March 29 on the budget levy for BMCC. Elizabeth McKinney 221 NW 12th Pendleton. This meeting was held only because of the constant com munications of concern by staff and board members ex pressing the concerns of the members of the cooperatiave to the council members and was not established by the council as a public meeting. The highly publicized public meeting intended for consu mer input, not sponsored by any particular utility, but by (he council itself, was held in Expressing concern To the editor. I wish to express my con cern for the upcoming election on March 29 to the voters of Umatilla and Morrow coun ties. On the ballot will be a budget levy for Blue Mountain Community College. Blue Mountain is of great importance to the two-county area, for it provides training opportunities in both vocational and transfer areas Df education. BMCC allows students who might not have the funds to attend four-year institutions the chance to further their education at the community college level. This institution has a repu tation of providing quality graduates from many fields. Many of BMCC's curricula have a high reputation To clarify ?To the editor As a rule, I do not take the time to answer a derogatory letter to the editor, but for my own defense and clarifica tion. I must reply to my friend, Marvin Padberg. Yes. Roy Hemingway and Al Hampson, the two people representing Oregon on the Northwest Power Planning Council, did meet with Fred Toombs and me at the Hep pner office. Because I had talked to Roy four or five times before and Fred had talked to him a couple of times. Roy extended us the courtesy of asking to meet with the two of us to discuss our problems which are unique for the state. Roy and Al were on their way that same day to a well-publicized public meeting in Pendleton, where any protest which con sumers wanted to organize would have ben appropriate Out of common courtesy to the irrigators, we did invite a few of them to sit in on our ry HiHSIEuilE Ml voo A gift can be given anytime to express a feeling when words fail. Very few utilities have had the opportunity to have the council take valuable tiire to listen to (lie concerns of indi vidual circumstances and we should feel gratified that their interest is sufficient in our particular problems to meet with us on a one on one basis. In the past, many opportun ities have been afforded those consumers who wished to have input into the regional plan which does have a great affect on all of us. To the best of my knowledge, very few consumers have taken advan tage of these opportunities. Those who have made the effort have found it reward ing. I consider the accusations of lack of publicity a cheap shot at what was intended as a sincere effort to aid all of our consumers and not a select group. Fred R. I am now attending BMCC for a third year to educate myself in the areas of electronics and computers which I feel is the trend of the future. Blue Mountain has allowed me to stay in the community in which I work and get the education I need, without the expense of a four year institution. It is my hope that the voters will cast their ballot for Blue Mountain Community College. Please vote "Yes" on March 29 Merle H Gehrke A S B. President Rt.2Box 13 Echo. We had nearly three hours of give and take from all of us on many items of mutual interest to all our consumers. Roy Hemingway and Al Hampson thanked us for the chance to meet wiih us and remarked on the excellent information they received from our group. But no way could we have turned this into a large public meeting. It would have defeated the intent and purpose of their informa tional meeting requested with Fred and me. It is never our intent to conduct Columbia Basin busi ness in secrecy and we will continue to include the mem bership by holding public meetings and by letter as we have done in the past.
