These kids were competing against at least 1,200 of the very best cowboys and cowgirls from the United States and Canada. They have all represented Oregon very well and placed high at the national level. It's a shame that your paper missed out on a good news worthy story about the ac complishments of these kids prior to their going to Douglas. So many local people were not even aware of who had even qualified to go. Obituaries Donald Boyd Hough CLARKSTON, WASH. -Donald Boyd Hough, 74, of Clarkston and a former Hep pner resident, died July 26, 1982, at Lewiston, Idaho. He was born December 14, 1907. to Harry and Mable Sargent Hough at Enterprize. Mr. Hough lived in Heppner from 1959 to 1975. His wife, Prudy, preceeded him in death. Funeral services were held July 29 at Merchants Funeral Home. Clarkston. Survivors include a daught er, Joyce Skillings of Wallowa, a sister, Velma Combs. Clarkston; a brother. Glen Hough of Lewiston, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Patricia Jean Scritsmier PORTLAND - Patricia Jean Scritsmier, 61. of Portland, a former Heppner resident, died July 25, 1982 in Portland. She was born July 17, 1921 to John and Ada Cason of Hep pner. Mrs. Scritsmier had re quested that no funeral ser vice be held. Survivors include her hus band. Harold Scritsmier. of Portland, a &on, John F. Scrit smier. also of Portland; daughters Jane L. Brown of Vancouver, Wash., Jean M. Rea of Hillsboro and Sue Wochnick of Portland; a sis ter, Vivian Elder, of Heppner; and grandchildren Sean Wakefield of Hillsboro, Lind say Cason Wochnick, and Becca Wochnick or Portland; and numerouse nieces and nephews. Irrigon. was convicted by jury in Morrow County Justice Court (Irrigon) of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxi cants on July 27, reported Morrow County Deputy Dis trict Attorney Harold Mc Lean. Tate was sentenced to five days in jajl with credit given for time previously served and was fined $410 with commun ity service in lieu of the fine authorized at $5 per hour if desired by the defendant. Mc Lean said. In other news, McLean re ported Merlyn Eugene Stone, 45. of Hardman. arrested May 31 and charged with Menacing and Recklessly Endangering, was found guilty by jury on July 28 of Menacing and not guilty of Recklessly Endan gering. A sentencing hearing has not yet been set. McLean said. Senior News Lorna Leong of the Ameri can Cancer Society in Pendle ton will give a presentation on cancer following the noon meal at the Heppner Senior Mealsite on Wed., August 11. lone and Lexington resi dents needing a ride to Hep pner on Wednesdays are ask ed to call Dot Halvorsen, 422-7143 to make arrange ments. Seniors attending the noon meal at the mealsite are not charged for transportation. For those over 60 who do not attend the cost is 75 cents round trip. Cost for commut ers under 60 is $1.50. Heppner seniors needing a ride to the mealsite should call Mary Nikander, 676-5571 to make arrangements. Parents of the couple are Paul Pettyjohn Jr. of lone and Ginney Thompson Liess of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Thompson of lone. The Rev. Cathy Barker officiated at the ceremony. The altar and sanctuary were decorated with bouquets of white gladiola and orchid daisies. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a long gown of orchid chiffon with a bodice of off-white lace. Her bridal bouquet was of silk orchids, white sweetpeas and daisies. Her headpiece was made of orchids, and white silk flowers. Matron of honor was Nancy Spivey and bridesmaids were Kelly Christman and Kristina Pettyjohn, sisters of the bride. Greg Rietmann was best man and groomsmen were Scott Balfe and Paul Snow. Frank Engleman and Allan Robert served as ushers and candle, lighters. Organist was Carley Drake. Jim Ackley accompanied himself and sang "Where Thou go I Will Follow" and "The Wedding Song." A reception in the ciiu.cn basement carried out the orchid and white color scheme. A four tiered wedding cake topped with white satin bells was cut and served by Dianna Hams, aunt of the bride, and Sandra Thompson, sister of the groom. Susan Sanchez, sister of the groom, poured coffee, and Brenda Patton poured punch. Deena Hams was in charge of the guest book and Shawn Hams passed out bags of rice. Marilyn Childers, Dot Halvorsen. Geneva Palmer, Edith Matthews and Laurie Barraow were in charge of the reception. Vera Rietmann arranged the bouquets of flowers which were displayed in the reception room. ' The couple is now living on the George Miller ranch at Cecil. Raymond Beard at a nuptial Mass on June 19 at St. Williams Catholic Church, lone. Parents of the couple are Dick and Loa McElligott of lone and Victor and Hainet Fall or Kalispell, Mont. The bride's attendants were her sisters Annie Hull of Helena, matrom of honor and Martha McElligott, lone. The groom's brother, Jack, of Boise, Idaho and brother-in-law David of Helena were groomsmen. A barbecue reception followed the ceremony at the bride's parents home south of lone. Henry Krebs attended the spit. The couple will make their home in Helena where the groom is a small acreage farmer and the bride is employed as a registered nurse at St. Peter's Hospital.
