David and April Hilton Sjkes, Publishers Letters To The Editor .'We are very proud To the editor: Recently, citizens in North Morrow County turned out to completely renovate the ath letic field and track at Colum bia Jr. High School (Irrigon). Farm equipment, excava tion equipment, supplies and labor were donated to com plete this job. As a result of this massive, well coordinated effort, the area was disked, fertilized, smoothed, seeded, rolled and a new track constructed all in the space of three days. The transformation was nothing short of unbelievable. , These results are due to the efforts of many people, but especially to: John Wenholz, Jim Key, Vernon Frederick- . Obituaries I Lee H. Pettyjohn Lee H. Pettyjohn. 63, a former Heppner resident, died in Portland on May 29. 1982. He was born February 14. 1919 in Heppner, the son of Noah and Ella Pettyjohn. On May 6, 1945 he married Pat ricia Emert of Hermiston in Pendleton. Mr. Pettyjohn was a lifelong wheat and cattle rancher in Gilliam and Mor row counties. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a pla toon sergeant in World War II in the South Pacific. Services were held Thurs day. June 3 at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Pendleton, with burial at Olney Cemetery, Pendle ton. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Pettyjohn. Survivors include his wife, Pat. of lone; three daughters, Nancy Lee Miller. lone, Patti Sue McCoin of Condon and Marianne Sharp of LaGrande ; two brothers. Paul of lone and Ray of Portland; two sisters, Beulah Sherer and Geneva Palmer, both of lone; and seven grandchildren. Contributions, for those who wish, may be made to the Easter Seal Society of Oregon for the summer camp pro gram at Lakeside. Death Notice Word has been received of the recent death of a former Heppner resident. Conley Lan ham. Mr. Lanham died Mon day. June 7. at Hemet, Cali fornia. A complete obituary will be published in next week's Gazette-Times. Class of '77 reunion slated Heppner High School's class of 1977 will hold a class re union Saturday. June 26 at Cutsforth Park. Events will begin at 11 a.m. and a potluck dinner will follow at 1 p.m. Class members will be con tacted and asked to bring a specific dish soon, said a spokesperson. Those who plan to attend are asked to provide their own table service and drinks, she added. Members of the classes of 1976 and 1978 are also invited to attend. son. June 16, 1:30 p.m., at the Columbia Basin Electric Co-op confer ence room. A bus trip to Maryhill Mus eum has been planned for Morrow County senior citizens on Friday, June 18. (See relat ed story). The applica tions may be picked up at the center, or call 676-5424 or 676-5873 for more information. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program was highly successful in Morrow County. In the south end of the county. 80 families received assistance and in the north end of the county. 82 families received assistance. A total of $35,050 was distributed throughout the county. Adult and Family Services counselor Janet Phillips will not be available at the center again until July 7. In an emergency. callers may phone Margaret Elliott at the Hermiston branch office. 567 2253. A Social Security represent ative will visit the center on Friday, June 11. from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A free blood pressure clinic will be conducted by Morrow County Health Nurse Pat Wright on Tuesday, June 15. from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Seventeen women attended last Thursday's social-craf! session at the center. The ladies made cloth picture frames to sell as part of a continuing craft sale at the center. Pat Brindle, center coordi nator, traveled to Pendleton last week to receive further training in the WIC Program, a nutritional program for wo men, infants and children which will soon be handled through the center. HHS grad to play in series Doug Holland, a recent Hep pner High School graduate, has been chosen to play in a AA A Baseball All-Star Series in Roseburg June 19 and 20. The series is sponsored by the Oregon High School Coaches Association. More details will be announ ced as thev become available. Pastor Chip Whitman of the Parkrose Christian Center officiated. The bride, was given in marriage by her father.Her gown had a high lace neck with sheer bodice and lace ruffle, and a long train w ith three rows of lace at the bottom. She also wore a white wreath veil and carried a long cascade of peach roses, miniature white carnations and babies breath. Maids of honor were Pam Martin and Patti Martin, sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Nancy Osier, Jeanne Huffington and Charma Marquardt. Christian Olson and Krista Olson were candle lighters. Flower girl was Angel Owen and Eric Marquardt was ring bearer. The bride's attendants wore peach gowns with embroider ed peasant necklines and bustles in the back. Best men were Doug Marquardt, brother of the groom and Jeff Fortenberry. Groomsmen were Scot Echols, Ron Martin and Rick Marquardt. Ushers were Russ Martin and Tim Good. Wedding music included "Oh How He Loves You and Me," sung by Sue Covey; "The Wedding Song," a duet by Sue Covey and Norita Marquardt, sister of the groom; "I Could Never Promise You," sung by the groom ; and "Flesh of My Flesh." by Norita Marquardt. A reception at the church followed the ceremony. Karen Huffington served punch and MVry Richards an aunt of the bride, poured coffee and tea. Denise Magnus attended the gift table and Penny Marquardt, the guest book. The bride is a 1980 graduate of Oregon City High School and attended Warner Pacific College. The groom is a 1979 graduate of Heppner High School, attended Blue Mountain Community College and is presently a junior at Warner Pacific College. After a wedding trip to Bend and Southern California, the couple is at home in Heppner. Chas Ashley officiated. The bride, given in marriage by Ron VanStrueber, wore a long white chiffon gown with a mandarin collar and lace trim. Attending the bride was Bobbi Landiveer, who wore a floor length lavendar gown. Best man was Dan McBride of Heppner. Wedding music was provided by Sandy Espy of Condon. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Rebekah Hall in Lexington. After a short weddir.g trip, the couple visited friends and relatives in Heppner and Lexington.
