Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, March 25, 182 - THREE WW Lexington news Delpha Jones A fun filled evening was enjoyed at the Norman Nelson home on Sunday evening where they, with the invited guest enjoyed a surprise party for them. The party was hosted by their children, Chuck and Lisa Nelson of lone and Kristin Nelson of Salem, assisted by Debbie Warren of Ueppner, As the guests arrived, they were greeted to the USO lounge and Red Cross Canteen taking them back to World War II somewhere in the Pacific. Sailor and Seabee hats were worn throughout the evening, The evening Rtarted out with authentic C rations with crackers served to the guests, who had the privilege of opening some of those stubborn small cans. Beverages of pineapple and coconut Juice, navy grog and coffee, which according to the menu, you could stand a knife In. The main course fo the dinner was roasted Australian goat (pork), Navy beana, variety of fruits including mango, papaya, pineapple, coconut, and kiwi with apple pie and ice cream for dessert Dining and dancing music was by the big band sounds and songs from the South Pacific. Entertainment was really great, with movies, "Bank Dick" with W C. Fields (1942); a "Donald Duck" cartoon - Walt Disney UM1), "You were there" series newsreels, two decades, 1927 and l(M7and a fashion show of the most popular dress. Har riet Batty modeled the basic Marine lady's winter uniform owned by Kllen Nelson Mason and Debbie Warren modeled the summer attire of the Murine women The evening was spent in visiting and reminiscing by the following guests: Mr. and Mrs Harold Beech of Hood River, Mr and Mrs Jack Barak, Hermiston; Mr. and Mrs Orlo Martin of Moro, all formerly of Ix-xington, Mr. and Mrs O K Cutsforth, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smouse, Mr and Mrs. I-eo Crabtree, Mr and Mrs. Kd Gonty, Mr. and Mrs Kenneth Peck, ?Mr. and Mrs. Bud Batty, Mr, and Mrs CC Jones, Debbie War ren, Mr, and Mrs Fred Nelson, the honorees, Mr. and Mrs Norman Nelson and the hosts Mr. and Mrs Nelson will be leaving soon for a trip to the South Pacific with a group from Mr. Nelsons Seebee unit. Mrs Norman (Jean) Nelson spent several days last week at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Smouse and son, Kenny Lyn returned home after several days in the Portland area. While there, Mr. and Mrs. Smouse were taken ill and he spent a few hours at a hospital ttiere, Victor Khnger, who recently spent several weeks with his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs Bill Padberg, left on Tuesday morning for Ketchi kan, Alaska where he will be employed. Mr. and Mrs. Butch Sawyer of Pasco visited at the CC Jones home Monday evening and were overnight guests at the Bill Padberg home Butch and Sarah were married at Public Meetings The Juvenile Services Com mission will hold two public meetings on Wed., March 31 at 7 in p in Uesideiils of south Morrow Co will meet at the courthouse basement and north Morrow Co residents at Koarilman City Hall Propos ed programs to he funded for h:i will be discussed f Guests at the Glover Peck home, to attend the funeral services of Eleanor Morey were Mr. and Mrs. Jini Peck and their daughter and son-in-law of Hermiston; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Peck of Pendleton; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Peck and children of Moro; Mr. and 989-8189 Richland, Wash, on Thursday evening last week. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peck and family were recent Port land callers where Mr. Peck received medical attention. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom were visitors at The Dalles where they visited his father who is a patient at a hospital there and In Portland where they visited his grandfather who is a resident at the Odd Fellow Home Sunshine House, and then to points of interest in that area. TABS The last of a series of card parties was held at the Lexington Grange Hall Satur day night. The grange expres ses their appreciation to ail those who helped with and attended the parties. Lexington Grange met on Monday evening for a regular meeting. Several resolutions were read and adopted. It was announced that plans are. underway for the Blue Moun-' tain Fiddler's to return for a program this fall on Oct. 16. The program for the even ing was slides shown by Leo' Crabtree of Yellowstone Park,' and the area surrounding Mt.. St. Helens following the May 18, 1981 eruption.
