LETTERS Church people were not or ganized in opposition to her activity 15 years ago: perhaps they are beginning to get organized now. She might be able to prevent the broadcast ing or televising of any Christian programs in the future: programs which mean so much to so many, especial ly to invalids, to shutins. to the elderly and to receptive child ren, also. How would you like to have your family miss the lovely Christmas music, the beauti ful dramas that are being sent out during this season? Do you want to miss seeing or hearing programs related to Christmas or Easter or to other Christian traditions from now on? Folks of Morrow County. TO EDITOR through the leadership of their various churches, are ready to join organized opposition to Atheist O'Hair. They wonder if she is acting just like she fears other people of other beliefs might act? Is she wanting to force her belief on everyone? So far she has made so much progress just because the mass of citizens has not really had its aware ness aroused. Maybe she will try to force book burning next. Americans appreciate that this country was founded by patriots who put the freedom of individual choice as to religion first among their reasons for wanting a new dwelling place. They realize that our national constitution wisely promises separation of church and state, primarily in ROAD REPORT The Morrow County Public Works Dept. has released the following Work Report for the week ending December 12: Blade work was done on the folowing roads: Doner ty-Al-pine. Librarian at Heppner Elemen tary and Junior High schools has written the following feature on selecting children's books. Jones offers tips given from Betsy Hearne. children's book review editor for the American Library Associ ation.) "The first tip. is to trust yourself. If you enjoy a book, your children will also enjoy it. This kind of personal involvement in both book and child lasts long past the picture book state." said Hearne. Also to be considered, is what type of book to buy for what age. For ages two to six. picture books are a good choice as they are meant to be read aloud and the pictures can be pored over together, said Hearne. Ages seven to nine enjoy beginning-to-read books with short chapters, some illustrations, simple vocabulary and enlarged type. The ten to thirteen year-old group enjoys a wide range of fiction and non fiction, depen ding on the child's interests and reading ease. Non-fiction poetry and folklore interest all ages, she added. Knowing someone's inter ests or hobbies will also aid in choosing a good book. "Your own involvement is the key to the perfect book selection," recommended Hearne.
