David and April Hilton Sykes, Publishers LETTERS Be proud To the Editor: As Football Coach at Hep pner High School. I would like to thank everyone who helped make this past season such a resounding success. The assistant coaches, players, high school staff members, parents and fans can be proud of what was accomplished this past season. As evidence of the fact that good sportsmanship still does exist in athletics. I enclose copies of letters sent to us from an Oakridge student and the Oakridge principal. Sincerely. John Sporseen Football Coach Heppner High School (Editor's note: Following are the two letters sent to Heppner High School that were enclos ed for publication with Coach Sporseen 's letter.) Heppner High School: We. the student body of Oakridge High School would like to show our appreciation for the hospitality we were shown while we played your school in the quarter-finals of the State A football playoffs. Never before have we felt so at home. The hospitality room you had for us to warm our weary bodies and fill our stomachs made it seem like we were a part of your family and were right at home, even after a seven hour drive. Everyone was so friendly. Even after we had won the game everyone wished us the best of luck and hoped we would go all the way. The Winterize Your Car How! We were impressed with the spirit you had for your football team. With such spirit you have much to be proud of. in fact, your community and school seem like they are one. Never before have I personally seen as great a bunch of people as you were. We hope to change our hospitality so that we are as thoughtful of others as you were to us. It is too bad that we had to meet so early in the bracket of the tournament. With the kind of motivation shown by the fans and players, a team like yours should go all the way. If there was some special trophy for spirit your school and community would receive it with no doubt. We. again thank you for the special time we had together and hope we will again meet. We. the students of Oak ridge High School wish you the very best of luck in everything you do whether it be athletics or community functions. Keep up the spirit, you're one very special school and com munity. Yours truly, Eric Rockwell for the Oakridge High Student Body Principal Jim Bier Heppner High School Heppner, Oregon Dear Jim: On behalf of our school, fans and players. I wish to thank all concerned with putting on the game between our schools. Also, a special congratula tions on the nice hospitality people and all of the goodies that they provided. The game itself was really a shoot-out. wasn't it? It was probably the best game I have seen in many, many years of watching high school football. Both teams played hard-hit-' ting ball and showed good sportsmanship throughout the entire contest. Win, lose, or draw, that is what the game is all about : both schools can be very proud of their young people. Once again, thanks for a fine job of hosting the game; we hope we can represent our bracket right on through to the finals. Respectfully, ' William C.
