Distinguished guest Morton Wolverton. Eastern Oregon State Deputy of the State Grange and his wife Freda were introduced and welcomed. Old business discussed was the Blue Mountain Fiddlers' entertainment to be held on Sat. evening at the hall. A stew supper of stew, hot biscuits, coffee and cookies will be served from 6 - 8 p.m. for $2 and the evening's entertainment will be $2 or $4 for both. The entertainment will start about 7 p.m. Installation of officers for the Morrow County granges and Wheatland Pomona granges will be Dec. 13 at the Lexington hall starting at 2 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner. All officers are urged to attend. Pins of membership were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Papineau and Dennis. Also at this time a plaque showing a 10 percent gain in membership which was presented to the master at the state session, was presen ted to Membership Chairman Virginia Peck. The plaque was hung in the grange hall. The goal of this committee is to again meet the 10 percent gain. Joyce Buchanan was elec ted to fill the office vacated by Venice Hendrickson, whose employment makes it impos sible for her to attend. A CWA meeting will be held at the home of Virginia Peck. Fri. afternoon and the ladies will make- angel biscuits for the dinner Sat. evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wolverton said a few words to the members, encouraging them to keep up the good work and explained about the work of the order. Preceding the meeting a potluck dinner was enjoyed with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Nelson as the hospi tality committee. Following Cecil Jones showed his slides of a recent trip to Alaska. Leila Palmer was a Port land visitor last week visiting friends and relatives. She traveled there with Mr. and Mrs. Bud Marshall of Hep pner. ' Michael Jones underwent oral surgery in Kennewick. Wash, on Thursday, Nov. 12 returning to his home later in the day. The Three Links met at the home of Ruth Robinson on Thursday afternoon. Plans were discussed for the Arti factory tables, and the card parties to be held the first Sat. Joyce Buchanan, Dorothy Burcham, and Virginia Peck following the meeting. The next club meeting will be at the C.C. Jones ranch. Mr. and Mrs.Lyle Peck and Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones motored to Spokane over the weekend where Mr. and Mrs. Peck received the National Grange Degree and the State Degree at the coliseum in that city. Others from Morrow County motoring to Spokane were Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers of lone, who also took the National Degree. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steagall and son, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Nelson and Justin enjoyed Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14. at the Tri-Cities. Environmental poster contest slated The National Council of State Garden Clubs in cooper ation with the Forest Service and State Foresters is spon soring their annual environ mental poster contest high lighting the USDA Forest Service symbols Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl. Entries must be received by January 5, 1982, said a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. Anyone may participate, with a special invitation to youth and senior citizens. Categories for competition are: (1) Kindergarten2nd grade. (2) 3rd-5th grades. (3) 6th-8th grades. (4) 9th-12th grades. (5) above 12th grade, and (6) handicapped persons. Posters may consist of either a picture of a slogan, or a combination, and should have an environmental theme. The posters may feature Smokey Bear or Woodsy Owl or neither. Any art materials may be used, but work must be original. Posters must be no larger than 12 by 18 inches, with the artist's name, grade or age. and home address printed in the lower right corner on the back of each entry. Copies of rules are available from Forest Service offices. Entries are to be mailed to state poster contest Chair person: Mrs. Golda Kirkpat rick. 234 S.E. 45th Ave.. Portland. OR 97215.
