Dispute on road width resolved By MAirV ANN CKIU'I.l.O A final decision on the Willow Creek road width was recently made by Morrow County Court. The new Willow Creek Road and two bridges crossing the creek will be 24 feet wide with four foot paved shoulders. A road width of 32 feet had been previously requested by the state Highway Division. According to Judge Don McElligott. the 12 foot driving lanes will make the road comparable with Higway 207 between Heppner and Lexing ton. The Corps of Engineers has been relocating a four-mile stretch of the creek road in preparation for the Willow Creek Dam. The first phase of road construction is nearing com pletion. Cub Scouts elect officers Cub Scout Pack 661 assem bled March 31 for a 7 pm. meeting at the Elks' Iodge in Heppner. At that meeting the follow ing officers were elected: Cub Schout. Council mem bers - Glenn Ward, Harriett Hall. Paul Arbogast. Dean Coner, Don Swett. and Loret ta Swett; chairman - Paul Arbogast: secretary - Bnnna ' Rae Miller: treasurer - Donna Osmin: communications -Sandi Devin: SME captain -Fran Stack: advancement -Marlene Gray: activities -Bobbie Angell: Cub master -Gene Hall: assistant Cub master - Steve Peck: den leader coach - Loretta Swptt. A pack meeting was sche duled for April 13 upstairs in the Heppner Elk's Lodge at 7 p.m. Den 5 (Lorrie Hire, leader) will provide entertain ment at the meeting. A special invitation was issued to all Cub Scouts. Webelos and Boy Scouts to attend the installation of Gene Hall as the exhaulted ruler of the Elks on April 11 at 4 p.m. at the Elks' Lodge. Road work reported The Morrow County Public Works Dept. released the following report concerning work completed for the week ending April 4. Roads graveled and bladed were Dale Brown, Strawberry East, Baseline to Lindsay and the road between Baseline and,. Pettys Canyon. Roads bladed were Keck' Canyon and Juniper. Gravel was spread on Pettys Canyon and Gene Cutsforth to Baseline Roads. Potholes were patched on these roads: Olson, McElligott and the Lower Rhea Creek shoulder project. Fill material was dumped on the narrow washed out shoulders of Jordan Grade Road. Wingwall footings were for medand poured on the Bert Peck Bridge project. The ditching and shoulder work on Lower Rhea Creek Project is progressing daily. In the Boardman-Irrigon Area roads patched with cold mix were Slaughter Road and 8th Street. Brush was cut from 3rd Street, and Barak - Martin North Road was bladed. Our crusher operated on a regular basis. New employees on the county crew are Robert Nash and Richard Dooney. A main irrigation pipe broke along the Bombing Range Road late Saturday evening causing about 50 feet of roadway to be washed out. The irrigation company has contracted with a private company to do the repair work. The repair on the road, began early Sunday and should ' be completed this week.
