February 5. 1981 Sheriffs The Sheriff's Department at the Morrow County Court house in Heppner handled the following calls over the past week: On Jan. 29. at 5:05 a.m.. a house fire was reported on the emergency 911 system by Shirley Garrett, seven miles out Balm Fork on the old Luke Bibby place. The Heppner Fire Dept. responded to the call. Some damage was done to the attic, according to the Sheriff's report. Also on Jan. 29 at 7:50 a.m.. Jack Shaw. Pendleton, report ed his Airedale dog missing from his pickup, which had been parked in front of the Heppner Motel. Anyone find ing the dog is asked to call 276-6222. In another Jan. 29 incident, at 8:02 a.m.. a call received from the Oregon State Police at Arlington requesting an ambulance to respond to a truck accident resulting in injuries. The accident had occurred at mile post 151. in the east bound lane of Inter state 84. A Boardman ambu lance responded to the call. On Jan. 28. at 12:39 a.m., a Boardman ambulance re sponded to a call from the Ronald Black residence, 208 Boardman Ave., N.W. On Jan. 27. at 5:30 a.m. a fire was reported at the Nugget Motel at Boardman. The Boardman Fire Dept. responded to the call. Also on Jan. 27. at 11 : 12 a.m. Francisco Aguiar. Stanfield address, was arrested by Oregon State Police at Herm iston on an Irrigon Justice Court warrant for allegedly disobeying a stop sign. Aguiar was lodged at the Hermiston Safety Center on other charges, also, say police. In another Jan. 27 incident, a criminal trespass was re ported by a VS. Forest Service special agent, M.G. Powers. The incident occur red near the Ellis Ranger Station. Ukiah Ranger Dis trict. The Sheriff's Dept. says the case is under investiga tion. On Jan. 26. an ambulance was requested at U and I. Inc.. Boardman. A young woman CowBelles, Beef Council, Les Schwab sponsor beef-tire promo Fri., Sat, The Morrow County Cow belles will be on hand at Les Schwabs Tire Center in Hepp ner Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7. from 1 p.m. to closing . to pass out free samples of Hawaiian meatballs. The free goodies are part of the 17th annual beef promo tion program sponsored by Les Schwab Tire Centers, the Oregon Beef Council and the Oregon CowBelles. The pro gram includes giving free beef gift certificates with the purchase of Les Schwab tires. Les Schwab recently pur chased nearly $50,000 in beef certificates from the Oregon Beef Industry to give away during the promotion. In announcing the promo tion, Donald Ostensoe. man ager, Oregon Beef Council, said that "during the past 16 years the Les Schwab Tire organization, headquartered in Prineville, has purchased imore than five-hundred thousand dollars in beef cert ificates for their annual tire promotion. The Beef Council and the Oregon CowBelles are most pleased in working with this Oregon industry in help ing to publicize and promote beef gift certificates and beef products in general." The beef certificates will be given with the purchase of two or more new passenger or pick-up tires or four Les Schwab passenger or pick-up retreads and can be used toward the purchase of beef at any business house in the meat business. This year's promotion will provide an added value to the customer as the tire firm has increased the value of each free certifi cate from $5.00 to $7.50. The certificates may also be used as premiums on gifts. Last year the tire firm gave away over $65,000.00 in free beef in Report was reported to be having trouble with respiration and low blood pressure. A Board man ambulance responded to the call. Also on Jan. 26. Darwin Duncan reported vandalism to his vehicle. A Morrow County deputy responded to the call. In another Jan. 26 incident. Mrs. Gene Lancaster. Hepp ner reported theft and forgery of a SAIF check. The Heppner Police Dept. responded to the call. Also on Jan. 26. a fire was reported at the White resi dence at Third and 'A' Streets in lone. The lone Fire Dept. responded to the call. On Jan. 25. Darwin Duncan reported the theft of stereo equipment and rugs from his trailer in Irrigon. A Morrow County deputy responded to the call. Also on Jan. 25. Robert Bass, a custodian at Sam Boardman Elementary School, reported a break-in at the school office. Boardman Police responded. On Jan. 24. Oregon State Police at Hermiston reported that they had Randall Charles Jydstrup in custody on their charges. The State Police also reported that they had served a Morrow County Sixth Jus tice Court warrant on Jyd strup for failure to pay restitution and failure to pay a fine. Jydstrup was lodged at Umatilla County Jail. On Jan. 23. an ambulance was requested at U and I. Inc.. Boardman. A Boardman am bulance responded. Also on Jan. 23. a bartender at Beecher's Cafe. lone, called in a report of a mobile home fire next to Beecher's. Flames were reported to be coming out of the building, which was owned by Robin Baker. No one was believed to have been in the building at the time. In another Jan. 23 incident. Ruth Brene. at the Hitchin Post at Boardman. reported that a male subject was causing trouble and requested assistance in removing the man from the premises. The Boardman Police Dept. re sponded. Oregon. Washington and Idaho. Les Schwab stated he feels this year's promotion will be the company's largest promo tion. Mr. Olson was born March 17. 1900. at Crocker. Iowa, the son of Thomas Axel and Florence M. Blow Olson. He moved to Heppner in 1946 from Des Moines. Iowa, and started working for the Hep pner Lumber Company, He stayed on through various management changes until his retirement from the mill, now the Kinzua Corporation, in 1966. Mr. Olson was an avid gardener, and a very success ful one. He enjoyed fishing, and was a dedicated walker who was a familiar sight as he strode briskly along the streets of Heppner. Funeral services were Tues day. Feb. 3. at 11 a.m. at the Sweeney Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Don Shelton of the First Christian Church officiating. Delta Huber sang "Beyond The Sunset." ac companied by Betty Mar quardt. Concluding services and interment were at Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Sweeney Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Simon Winters. Dave Winters. Joey Anderson. Mike Smith. Ed Olson and Fred Breeding. Honorary bearers were Jim Launer, Archie Alderman. Dick Sargent and Mike Saling. Mr. Olson is survived by two sons. Richard and Edgar, both of Heppner: two daughters. Alice Anderson. Hermiston. and Mildred Breeding. Hepp ner: two sisters. Mabel Clark and Bessie Eveland. both of De Moines. Iowa: twelve grandchildren, ten. great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife. Ida. preceded him in death in 1970.
