TheAU-Around Saddle was won by Jana Steagall who tied with Jerry Gentry with the point system but beat Jerry by a slim $22.08 on the money system. The saddle was made by Severe Brothers and don ated by Morrow Co. Grain Growers. NRA-WRA Rodeo-All-Around -Buckle sponsored by Pettyjohn's Supply and Bob Harris, Far Western Real Qleppner at Pendleton District meet Heppner team swimmers went to Pendleton Aug. 9 and 10 to compete in the Pendleton District meet. "A" swimmers (Kelli Berg strom, Heidi Samples, Cam George, Shelly Biddle, Andrea Ball and Duane Ball) accum ulated 74 points, swimming to a 9th place finish. Charlie, the outstanding golfer at Heppner High, has won first place in club tournaments, has earned his way, first, at Central Oregon College in Bend and, presently, at West ern Kentucky University in lone pool to close Aug. 24 Sunday, August 24, will be the last day of public swimm ing at the lone Swimming Pool. The week of August 25 will be used for preparation of the 4-H'er8 can enter open class competitions Being a 4-H member does not limit you to exhibiting in only 4-H classes. 4-H'ers are eligible to enter open class competitions at county fair. In fact, there are special classes for younger children, the "Kids and Super Kids Corner", and for teenagers, . the arrangements, home ec. items (clothing and foods), knitting, needlework and can ning, or hobby and craft items in these divisions. They may also enter animals and other exhibits in open classes. The same articles, or animal, cannot be entered in both 4-H and open class there must be exhibits for each division. last year? Competing from Morrow County were Rocky Steagall, Jana Steagall, Tony Currln, Joedy Marlatt and Brett Sherer, College scholarships were awarded to Joedy Marlatt ($300) and Jana Steagall ($300). There were a total of 39 scholarships awarded, total ing $13,000. Joedy Marlatt qualified in steer wrestling, 1st. go. Brett and Jana qualified In team roping. Jana qualified in team roping, breakaway and poles. She won 10th In the nation In breakaway. She also com pet ed in the poles in the finals on Sunday, but knocked a pole. Tony Currin qualified In team roping (with Wayne Claver), steer wrestling and cow cutting. He won 8th In the nation in the finals Sunday In steer wrestling. He was in the top 20 in cow cutting. Rocky qualified in the three rough stock events-bulls, bareback and saddle bronc He competed in the finals Sunday, leading the saddle bronc, but was bucked off. There were 1300 qualifiers from 31 states and two Canadian provinces. Heppner placed 10th in the nation. Cake bakers stand up and be counted Cake bakers, stand up and be counted. First place winner in the Morrow County Fair bake-off will be eligible to enter the state bake-off at the annual convention of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. Each contestant who enters must use the same cake and icing recipe as presented by the Oregon Wheathearts in the fair premium book. County premiums are $10, first place, $5, second place and S3 third. The state premium is $100. The county's winner will have his or her name en graved on a plaque donated by Orville Cutsforth. After the cake is judged, the contestant may take 3-4 of the cake home leaving the remaining V on display. Cake baking contestants must be men or women over 21 or married men or women, excluding professional bak ers.
