She was the Morrow County Deputy Tax Collector for almost three years and then was appointed county tax collector In Decemher of 1979. She has filled in for Treasurer Sylvia McDaniol during this time, whenever she has been ill or out of town. Sherer said. Sherer has been a resident of Morrow County for 20 years and she is married to Dick Sherer. They have three sons. Scott is 19 and a freshman at Treasure Valley Community College, Todd is 18 and will graduate from Heppner High School this year, and Brett is 17 and a junior at Heppner. Sherer "I have worked closely with the present treasurer so I am well aware of the duties and responsibilities of the office," Sherer said. "Now that my children are almost grown. I have the time to devote and if elected my experience qualifies me to assume the duties immediately, when the new term begins." The Morrow County Treasurer and Tax Collector positions will be combined in January of 1981. Mary Martin. 32, Rt. 1 P.O. Box 462 In Iexington. is a candidate for Morrow County Treasurer. She has lived In the county for 13 years and is married to Tom Martin. They own the 4M Ranch. Inc. The Martini have three daughters. Susan Is 11, Catherine 10 and Jennifer seven. Martin graduated from Mt. Assisi Academy in Lemont. 111. She attended DePaul University for two years In the Liberal Arts School majoring In philoso phy with a minor in math. DePaul furnished a scholastic grant for tuition both years. She took classes in accounting, computer language and seminars In group behavior. She is employed with Bechtel Power Corp. in Boardman in the accounting department. She formerly worked at Kinzua in accounting. Martin is president of the Morrow County Cowbelles, chairman of the Cowbelles Legislative Committee, on the lone School Advisory Board, a member of the Heppner Juvenile Advisory Board, a member of the Morrow County Wheat Growers Association ind a member of the Heppner Child Development Center Board. She has also assisted in initiating "Many Against Drugs" in the Boardman (Continued on Page 14) - S. mi Mary Martin Alice Vance Alice Vonce. 52, Rt. 2 Box 2384 in Heppner, is one of the candidates running for Morrow County Treasurer. She is a Republican. Vance is the School District Deputy Clerk. She has a son who lives in Heppner. Vance said she has thorough knowledge of accounting, investment, budgeting, audits, financial statements and managing public funds. "I understand the demands of the office and have the experience and ability to carry out the responsibility." she said. . Vance is a native of eastern Oregon having graduated from Condon High School. She has lived In Morrow County for 2t years. After high school, she has taken professional courses through the Blue Mountain Community College evening division and computer payroll training. She has been employed by the Morrow County School District for more than 17 S ears including six years as secretary at nieppner High School, five years as secretary at the district office and Bix years as deputy clerk. "My main duty as deputy clerk is sole responsibility for district funds," she said. "The largest Bhare of the tax money collected in Morrow County is for the oM'ra!ion of schools. Any funds not needed for immediate cash flow are invested locally at the best Interest rate and for the longest possible time for the best return. Interest earnings to May 1 for the 1979-80 fiscal year are $1,800 more than the amount budgeted to be received. "I have earned the respect of the school board, administrators and co-workers by setting and achieving high standards of integrity and accuracy. My experience in managing public funds, ability, knowledge and maturity are needed in the position of Countv Treasurer." Alice Vance COUNTY CLERK Barbara Bloodsworth Pauline Winter Barbara Bloodsworth. 42. Rt. 2 Box 2145 in Heppner. is seeking the office of Morrow County Clerk.. She is the present clerk having been appointed to the office when Sadie Parrish retired. "I am seeking the office of Morrow. Conty Clerk because 1 enjoy the type of work that goes on in the clerk's office." she said. "In some way it touches upon the work done in every office in our county government." For the past 10 years. Bloodsworth has worked in the county clerk's office and worked for one year in the assessor's office prior to that She feels most of the work that is done in the office must be learned by experience. She was born in the county and spent most of her life here. She has been married to .)im Bloodsworth for the past 7'i years. They have a farm between Lexington and Heppner. Barbara Bloodsworth has three chil dren Barbara (Bobbie) is a first year student at Blue Mountain Community College and hopes to transfer to Oregon Stale University and sludy oceanography. Coleman is a graduating senior at Heppner High School and plans to attend Central Oregon Community College next year. Patricia will be a junior at Heppner next year and will also be 'a varsity cheerleader. Bloodsworth graduated from Heppner High in 19"fi and then worked at J.C. Penny as a bookkeeper. She took a secretarial course at the Northwest Business College "CJ" t -1 (I M.-J Barbara Bloodsworth in Port land in 1957. She then took a job with attorney J.J. Nys. For 10 years she was a housewife and then she worked for Dr. L.D. Tibbies. She then worked In the assessors office, county clerk's office and then became county clerk Jan. 1. 1980. "I really feel that after 10 years as Deputy County Clerk in the office of the County Clerk. I am well qualified for the job." Bloodsworth said. "It is not a job that can be learned in the few months time my opponent has spent in this office." Pauline Winter. 45. Rt. 2 Box 2489 In Heppner. Is seeking the office of Morrow County Clerk. Winter has lived in the county for 174 years and has three children. Karen Is 22. Rosemary 19 and Herman Jr. 18. Winter has had four years of college education and has taken bookkeeping and accounting courses through Blue Mountain Community College. She Is the Civil Deputy for the Morrow County Sheriffs Office. , She has three years of college at Willamette University plus two semesters at Lewis and Clark College majoring In political science with minors in literature, philosophy and sociology. Winter has eight years of job experience in related fields in both the private and public sector including four years of general office work, three years as a legal secretary for attorneys, and more than four years as the Civil Deputy. She said she has broad experience with various courts, legal documents, record keeping and civil and criminal proceed ings. She" added that she' has experience and ability to work with the public and has a proven record in this area. Winter said she has taken an active role in every election since 1952 either as a campaign worker, precinct committee woman, party chairman, member of an election board or as a candidate. She has "extensive and direct personal experience in all areas in which candidates for public office should have r working background "including family responsibilities, church membership in local and diocesan leadership roles, and voluntary commu nity and civic work (nine years servica en the Morrow County School Board, eight years on the Heppner Library Board, American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes). "I have the ability and willingness to recognize and balance partisan concerns In matters of bipartisan natijre and impact." Winter said. "I have an open mind and a willing spirit, committed to furnishing fair, equitable, impartial, courteous and professional service to everyone.
