The City of Heppner reports that the water supply failed to meet Federal bacterio logical standards during December 1979. Analysis of monthly drinking water samples indicated that the December sample was positive for conform organisms and that this result exceeded the limit allowed by law. The coliform organism is used as an indicator of microbiological quality, and while these organisms pose no threat to health, their presence does indicate that a source of contamination might exist somewhere in the water system. An investigation by the City was initiated as soon as the positive sample was reported. Ch lor (na tion was immediately instituted and subsequent samples of the drinking water were negative to coliform. Earl Papineau, Supt. City of Heppner .Publish Jan. 31, Feb. 7, 14, 1980. There was plenty of competition between buyers which helped keep the market up. Already consigned for next Thursday's sale are 200 head of excellent quality Hereford calves, 150 top quality steer and heifer calves and 100 head of mixed calves from Long Creek. With this many calves coming in this should be a good time to bring your calves to town. We look for the market to be good. Thank you, John B.
