The two runners finished first and second respectively in their divisions in the 800-meter race. The Heppner Mustang base ball team ends its regular season play next Tuesday when it plavs Wahtonka at 3 pin. On Saturday, there is a' home game at the Rodeo grounds, starling at 1 p.m. against Sherman County. lone tracksters place high at Big Sky cinder meet By Janet McElligott "Super, just super," said lone Coaches Del LaRue and Gordon Meyers, of their placings at the Big Sky track meet. Both the girls and the boys teams brought home first place trophies. The girls trophy marks the first time in the history of girls track that lone has ever brought home a winning team. The lone boys amassed 214 points, the next closest finish er, Dufur was 107 points behind. Robin LaRue took home four blue ribbons. He won the 110 and 300 hurdles and anchored legs on both the mile relay team and the 440 relay team. Terry Starr finished with 3 blues and a red. He took the shot and discus, ran in the inning relay, and tied for second in the javelin. Leslie Thompson took the pole vault, second in the triple jump and second in the high hurdles, while Jerry Rietmann took second in the pole vault. Greg Rietmann took a surprise first in the long jump, a third in the triple jump and was a relay runner. Jeff Hams ran off with the 800 yard run, garnered a third in the high jump, and a fifth in the long jump. Bruce Millman came on strong, jn , the. field . events, taking a second in the discus and a fourth in the javelin. Shawn LaRue placed second in the 1500 meter run and a fifth in the 800 meter run. Treve Peterson placed a second in the 400 meter dash and dashed in both the winning relays. Mike Conklin received a second in the 110 hurdles, a third in the 300 hurdles and a fifth in the discus, and a sixth in the loo yard dash. Duane Ketsch was a starting relay runner, a third in the 100 and a third in the 200 meter runs. Larry Snider ran a fast clip 3000 for a second. Lisa Meyers led the girls team scoring 32 points. She took a first in the 3000 meters, a second in the 1500 and the high hurdles and a third in the 200 meter hurdles. Janet McElligott broke the school record in the javelin with a first place throw of 99':?". took a sixth in the discus and a second in the 3000 meter run Kim Colenas was award ed a first in the shot put and high hurdles. Margaret Doh erty swept the loo meter run. placed second in the long jump and anchored the winning 44(1 relay team. Kim Pettyjohn took the other dash, the 200 and was a sixth place finisher in the long jump and a relay runner. Brenda Patton was second in the 400 dash and fourth in the 200. Michelle LaRue was tilth in the high jump. "It was a fantastic effort by everyone." said Coach Gordon Meyers. The Cards next meet is District. Little League Opens Saturday The Willow Creek Little League opens its season Saturday with games slated at the Morrow County Fair grounds. Opening day action puts the Angels against the Braves at Heppner beginning at 1 p.m. The Dodgers go against the Giants at 3:30 p.m. According to Ted Toll, league president, the league will consist of four teams with about 100 boys and girls participating. An added fea ture of this year's league is Condon's membership. Con don has joined the league because of the shorter travel distances to Heppner com pared to Grass Valley, Toll said. A bake sale will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Central Market in Heppner to raise money for the league's gener al equipment fund. This is the 21st year of the league's existence and Toll is convinced Condon's member ship will give it an added boost. Game time for the regular slate of weekday games is 0 p.m. sharp with infield prac tice at 5:45 p.m. The Angels home games will be played at Condon with all other games at Heppner. Any change in the published schedule will re quire notice to the managers whose games are being changed no less than two days before the change. The second and final session will start July 24 and end August 4. This year an adult swim class will be offered which will be taught by Red Cross standards. If you would like to learn how to swim, classes start July 10 at 6 p.m. Red Cross Swimming Certificates will be given to all passing students. Basic Rescue and Water Safety (Jr. Lifesaving) and Advanced Lifesaving (Sr. Lifesaving) will start August 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. and run about three weeks. This will be offered once. Ms. Diane Holland will be the pool manager. Opening day free swim will be Sunday, June 10. Lesson hours, fees and registra tion dates will be announced later. With a record in league play, the Mustangs are con tenders for the two team playoff slot in the Columbia Basin League, according to Coach Dale Holland. Holland feels the third place Mustangs have a chance of moving into the playoffs but says they must continue playing well. In a game Friday against lone, the Mustangs outscored the neighboring team. 4-3.
