The Cards were unable to contain the Honkers' well-oiled scoring machine, sparked by 6-5 senior Jim Bailey, who picked up 18 points in the match. Arlington led 33-16 at the half, but the Cards cut their lead by four points in the third quarter, then closed within nine points with five minutes left. The game once more within reach, the adrenalin level rose in Cardinal players and fans. But as the Cards narrowed the score, "we got a little pan icky." Coach Del LaRue commented. "We threw up a few shots that shouldn't have been there. It's good that we could come back like that, but we just didn't have the power to stay up with those people. They have a lot of tournament experience." The Honker proceded to put the game out of reach in the remaining minutes, during which Card starter Dennis Stefani strained an ankle and was sidelined. In addition to his 18 points, Arlington's Bailey was credit ed with 17 rebounds. All in all, the Honkers picked up 37 boards to the Cards' 24 near ly half of them offensive rebounds. High point men for lone were McCabe and Stefani with 11 each. Danny McElligott picked up eight, followed by Robin LaRue with six, John Lindstrom with four, Gregg Rietmann with three and Shawn LaRue with two. Also making points for lone were Lind strom, 8; Krebs, 6; McCabe, 6; Robin LaRue, 3; McElli gott, 2; Starr, 2; and Shawn LaRue. 2. Saturday's contest marked the end of their high school basketball careers for seniors McCabe, McElligott and Lind strom. Arlington went on to defeat second-place Dufur by 12 points to recapture the Big Sky basketball crown. La Verne Van Marter racked up 20 points, and Frank Pearson chipped in eight to spark the first-ranked team to victory. Lee Padberg was the top scorer for Forest Service, with 14 points. Eckman remains just one game behind the unbeaten Van Marter squad, after beating Greenup by a 63-42 margin on Sunday. This coming Sunday, Forest Service will meet Watkins, Van Marter takes on Lane, Greenup will challenge Smith, and Johnston faces Eckman. Two of the Heppner fresh man, Farrar and Holland, posted season-long shooting rates of 50 per cent or higher from the field. Farrar con nected on 53 per cent of his attempts from the court, while Holland sank 50 per cent of his field goal tries. Farrar aver aged 11.9 points and just over nine rebounds per game, and " Holland averaged 10.7 points and eight rebounds.
