apparently had used up their
quota of luck the previous
week.
The Cards were unable to
contain the Honkers' well-oiled
scoring machine, sparked
by 6-5 senior Jim Bailey, who
picked up 18 points in the
match.
Arlington led 33-16 at the
half, but the Cards cut their
lead by four points in the third
quarter, then closed within
nine points with five minutes
left.
The game once more within
reach, the adrenalin level rose
in Cardinal players and fans.
But as the Cards narrowed the
score, "we got a little pan
icky." Coach Del LaRue
commented. "We threw up a
few shots that shouldn't have
been there. It's good that we
could come back like that, but
we just didn't have the power
to stay up with those people.
They have a lot of tournament
experience."
The Honker proceded to put
the game out of reach in the
remaining minutes, during
which Card starter Dennis
Stefani strained an ankle and
was sidelined.
In addition to his 18 points,
Arlington's Bailey was credit

the Honkers picked up 37
boards to the Cards' 24 near

rebounds.
High point men for lone

picked up eight, followed by
Robin LaRue with six, John

winner of the consolation
bracket on Saturday, but the
results were the same.
"Both teams played rather
flat," said Coach LaRue,
despite the fact that no more
than four points separated the
two teams throughout the
contest.
After a lackluster three
quarters of trading baskets,
with three minutes remaining
on the clock, only one of the
Cardinal starting five Gregg
Rietmann remained on the
court. Robin LaRue and
Danny McElligott had fouled
