Tuesday night the Redbirds outshot, oulscored, outrebounded and simply outplayed the bigger Class A, previously undefeat ed Condon Bluedevils (who have downed Heppner, Arling ton and other promising teams). After their two defeats suffered over the weekend, the Cards seemed red-hot and ready for the 66-59 win over Condon. "The thing that won the game for us was simply good man-to-man defense," said lone Coach Del LaRue. "We'd been playing zone before and we just really put the pressure on them tonight," he said. The Cards outscored the Bluedevils in all but the last quarter, where Condon out scored the Cards 22-14. "They came back good," said the coach: "They had me a little worried," he admitted. Kevin McCabe scored 20 points. Dennis Stefani 14, Robin LaRue 12, Danny Mc Elligott 7 and Gregg Riet mann 8, in a game in which LaRue said his team had, "a good balance in scoring." "We had good assists." bragged Coach LaRue. "14" he said, pointing to his sheet, "an that really helps." The Cards really put it together for the game. Friday night and Saturday night were not nearly as successful for the Redbirds. Although the Cards dropped both of their games the game play improved drastically from Friday to Saturday, according to Coach LaRue. That improvement must have carried over to the Tuesday night win also. "We relazed a lot between the two games," said the Coach, "and played the game just that much better. Friday night (the game was won by the Heppner Mustangs.) we weren't relaxing at all." Robin LaRue lead the Cards with 10 points, followed by Kevin McCabe with 8. Even though the Cards were defeated against Condon on Saturday, Coach LaRue seem ed to be more satisfied with the way his team had played for him. "WE were playing more like we know how," he said. Dropping the game by the narrow margin of five baskets much better than the 65-42 loss of the night before. Dennis Stefani led all scorers with 20 points.
