"It's not going to get any easier." Thompson's new, parttime job is an outgrowth of work started by former OWGL president Tad Miller. The new position also fits into the proposed organization called, tentatively, Pacific Northwest Chemical Users Association. Thompson's duties will in clude: Securing information on pesticides used in cereal production. Work with extension ag ents and specialists in educa tional programs in the use, registration, and evaluation of various pesticides. Compile research mater ials from scientists and others regarding the benefits of pesticide use. Prepare documents and testimony for officers and committees. Call on growers, extension agents, scientists, pesticide field men and other specialists to gather information. Thompson will also work with the group that is forming the three-state organization to deal with chemical use restri ctions and other mutual problems. Another opening day brings old friends, former neighbors, relatives and a multitude of strangers to this area. Here in Kinzua returnees are surpris ed at the many changes since their last visit. Many of the houses are gone or are in the process of being torn down. The schoolhouse is going fast as is the aid station. The bar and cafe are closed and service at the station is obtained by ringing the hell and waiting for someone to come over from the store. Perhaps the change that is most noticable is the tall smokestacks, now cold and useless, pointing up the lack of the industry that was the life of our town. Vic Wallis and his mother, Dorothy Wallis. had a house lull of company lor the first weekend of deer season. Former resident John Weaser and his brothers Carl, Tim and Albert were here from Bend. They were joined by Wendy and Dave Batson, The Dalles. The Weaser group left Sunday evening for home with , two bucks. Patti and Chuck Constantin, The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, October 5, 1978 SEVENTEEN fanfares Portland, are spending a long weekend here with her family, Don and Barb Pike. Herb Luper and sons Mike and Mark stopped by to visit Saturday evening. Herb and the boys were hunting. Evy and Marcy were unable to get away at this time. Evy stays busy with her job at a fruit packing plant near their home in Odell. Hospital Notes Chevron Serving Heppner Area With A Complete Line Of Petroleum Products Glenn Devin Chevron USA, Inc.
