The two teams qualified for the league title by leading the standings during the two halves of league play. The Giants won the second half of the season, with the Dodgers leading the league during the first half. An outstanding pitching performance by Dodger hurl er Gregg Connor, coupled with good fielding, accounted for the Dodger win. Connor struck out 15 Giant batters during the six inning contest. Despite the Dodger pitch ing, the Giants outhit their opponents 5 to 3. Giant pitching and fielding was also tight during the latter innings, with no runs scored by either team after the second inning of play.
