The IOOF Dodgers won the
1978 Willow Creek Little
League championship last
week, with a 4-0 win over the
Kinzua Giants.
The two teams qualified for
the league title by leading the
standings during the two
halves of league play. The
Giants won the second half of
the season, with the Dodgers
leading the league during the
first half.
An outstanding pitching
performance by Dodger hurl
er Gregg Connor, coupled with
good fielding, accounted for
the Dodger win. Connor struck
out 15 Giant batters during the
six inning contest.
Despite the Dodger pitch
ing, the Giants outhit their
opponents 5 to 3. Giant
pitching and fielding was also
tight during the latter innings,
with no runs scored by either
team after the second inning
of play.
Little League officials be
lieve the Dodger victory
marks the first time the club
has won the league pennant
since the baseball league was
incorporated here 20 years
ago.
The second half of season
play saw the Giants finish
first, the Braves second,
Dodgers third and Indians
fourth.
