Q a to The lone Grand Squares dance club celebrated a dec ade of dancing, fun and friendship on Saturday, May 6, at the American Legion Hall in Heppner. Dancers came from Boise, Prineville, Joseph, Pendleton and Hermiston to help the club commemorate their 10th an niversary. The group was officially formed with . the graduation of 29 charter members on May 10, 1968 from a class taught by Don and Blanche Arkell of Pendleton and Darrel and Bev Wilson of lone. Lorene Griffith read a history she had written about the club's formation and its progress through the decade during the refreshment break on Saturday. May decorations of lilacs and yellow and green crepe steamers set the scene for the evening's dancing enjoyment. A cake with 10 candles and homemade ice cream were provided by Ron and Gloria Davis and Jerry and Joyce Holloman for the anniversary dance. They also decorated the hall, assisted by Earl and Carol Norris and Clyde and Jackie Allstott. On Saturday, April 29, the Grand Squares played host to the Eastern Oregon Area Council of Square and Round Dance Clubs. The evening began at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner provided by the lone group. Members from all four clubs in the area were present. A business meeting pre ceded an evening of dancing which featured new round dances performed by the Square Knots of Hermiston, the Rocket Squares of Pendle ton and the lone Grand Squares. The dances were voted on to choose the Oregon Federation round dance of the month for July. Singspiration this Sunday The community Singspira tion for the month of May will be held on Mother's Day, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 560 N. Minor St. Everyone is invited to an evening of gospel singing and scriptures. PE program slatedfor Tuesday A special physical education program will be held at the Heppner Elementary School gym next Tuesday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m., by the fifth through eighth grade students of PE instructors Jerry Deford and Sherry Brock. Included in the program will be group performances fea turing hoola hoop, scooter board, square dancing, jump rope and physical fitness circuit skills. Individuals will also demonstrate their prow ess on gymnastic equipment. "We just wanted a chance to show off our P.E. program," Deford commented. "Every one's been working very hard for the past three weeks and we want to invite the commu nity to come up and see what we're doing." Ask Yourself...
