1978 Summer Week at Oregon
'State University. Theme this
year is, "A Time to Remem
ber", with a full schedule of
classes, special activities and
other events planned for both
the Intermediate (8th and 9th
graders) and Senior groups.
Although both age groups will
be on campus at the same

programs planned, to accom
modate the interest of both
groups.
Additional information is
included in the mailing to
senior age members, with
opportunities to apply to
attend the Marine Science
Workshop at Newport; Horse
Workshop on OSU campus;
and Teen Staff at State Fair.
We'd like members to look
the information over as soon
as it arrives at their home,
and return the necessary
forms to the county extension
office no later that April 15.

their interests. Camp will be a '

couselors from the four coun

hear from at least two more
families willing to host boys.

arrive in Morrow County on

Tours and Questions About
Tours
Spring weather is giving
local residents the urge to
travel. The Lions Club tour to
the Carty Site and other north
county developments attrac
ted seventy interested resi
dents. The Umatilla tour to
Portland, which included an
invitation to Morrow residents
has, at last report, about three
bus loads. ..and we are getting
requests for additional tours.
So, if you didn't make it with
one of those, watch for
information later about ano
ther tour to the coal-fired
plant, and possible one to
Portland. Extension Home-.
makers Advisory are discus
sing tours.
Unit Pricing In Effect
Have you notices something
new in your local grocery
stores? Supermarket shop
pers throughout Oregon will
find valuable new information
posted to assist them in their
purchases on most food and
grocery commodities. The
shift from voluntary unit
pricing to mandatory labeling
went into effect as of March 1.
The unit pricing is required
in stores grossing $1.5 million
or more a year. We encourage
consumers to take advantage
of the information, which
requires that most packaged
food and grocery products be
priced in two ways... with the
conventional total package
price, and a unit price showing
what the item costs according
to a specified unit of measure
ment (per pound, ounce, pints,'
feet, etc.).
If you consult the informa
tion posted near or below
items for sale, you won't need
your calculator to decide if the
big package or the small one is
the best buy.. .you can tell at a
glance how much you are
paying and compare. You'll
see some items which are not
required to be labeled in this
manner. The consumer will ,
still need to make their own
judgement of the quality
requirements and other fac
tors to determine the package
that best meets their own
needs, but the cost per unit is
there for you to consider.

that some individuals have
chosen to break into our 4-H
Camp Building at Cutsforth
Park.
It seems strange to us that
anyone would feel a desire to
break the locks, open the
lockers and containers where
our camp utensils are stored,
and leave the door open.
And it seems even stranger
that they left their picnic
supplies behind, for they
certainly can be used as
evidence.
4-H has extended the cour
tesy of use of their tables in
the dining hall, and the
warmth of the fireplace for all
to use. On inspection of the
camp, we find the tables
upturned and scattered, ben
ches piled and upset, and
other evidence of mis-use.
The County maintains the
Park for the enjoyment of
all. ..the kitchen and storage
room belong to 4-H, and is
used for our camp program,
which is a highlight event of
the year for members. The
camp is shared with any group
asking for use of the facility.
So, if you want to use
it. ..ask! Breaking off locks,

4-H Leader Salute...
Liz Curtis
You have probably met Liz Curtis. She is involved in
many community affairs, including AAUW, Tri-County
Health Board, secretary of the Fair Board and substitute
teacher. She creates beautiful stained glass objects, and is
involved in other affairs that keep her busy.
. But did you know that she is leader of a Geology 4-H club,
with eight energetic members? This is Liz's second year as a
leader.. ..last year she ventured into gardening. This year she
is spending some time hitting the books to keep ahead of the
group, and is planning extra outings and activities to allow
the eight boys opportunities to learn.
Liz came to the 4-H program in Morrow County with
some expertise to share. ..she was an outstanding 4-H
member throughout her school years, an OSU graduate in
home economics, an extension agent in Grant County.
Husband Rick is employed by the Forest Service, and also
finds stained glass a rewarding hobby. Two sons, Steve and
Ken, have many interests.. ..among them is the Geology club!
